Hey experienced ladies,
i'm expecting my first in 6 weeks :) and I have a couple of questions that are making me sort of nervous.
#1: during the push part of the labor, i've heard women that have passed stoll or pee peed by accident. Is it something to worry about or is it something that no one cares and happens all the time. It just seems kind of embarrassing
#2: screaming. Is it ok to scream during contractions?! I've been watching tlc's baby story religiously lately and there are some doctors that are hushing the woman and tell her to be quiet while she's pushing.
#3: when husband/support isn't around when contractions really start. What should I do? Should I drive myself to the hospital, call a cab?!
#4: anyone never went to lamase/prenatal classes during first pregnancy?

Thanx so much ladies....

I remember going through the same thing as you. Worrying! I watch the same thing I was like a sponge any info I could get my hands on. Lol. Well I woke up at 2:30 in the morn on my feet in seconds with contraction hat were 12 min apart. I was not sure it was labor, cause I went to the hospital the morn before think that my water broke. Needless to say they sent me home, and I did not want the same thing to happen again so I told my husband to go to work and I would call him. So my mom came over to my house and sat with me and contractions stayed about 12 min apart until 4pm that is when I told my husband to get home now or I was having this baby without him. Hahah. I did not have her until 10:45pm that night. I did not pee or poop on my doctor and believe me when the nurse asked everything that I had put in my tummy I was embarrassed, cause I had dougnuts, candy bars, ect. (hey it was my last night to use the excuse that I was prego and could eat whatever I wante) hahah. I did not scream even before the epidural. Everyone is different, so don't take my story to heart. I just do not want you to worry about pooping or peeing on your doc. I am sure they have seen wrse. Hope my story helps sorry it is so ling.
Good luck to you.

Thank You
Thanks amyc for easing my mind a little...
I guess i... Like most people are just afraid of the unknown. You are a brave one to not scream or anything... I think I have a low pain tolerance cuz sometimes I cry when I have really bad lower backpains... I'm a big baby~~

hee hee
cheers

Its normal to crap while pushing only cause ur using the same muscles as for screaming (not good at all) if you scream your actually stopping progress cause ur not using the right muscle to push if u need to get something out grunt/pant...

No joke a kid is like crapping a watermelon maybe not as big but use the muscle u would for going to the w3ashroom lower abdmonal

wish you luck on ur first!

My Experierience
Hi kittylainy,
i had the same questions as you do when I was pregnant. (my precious baby girl is now. Six weeks!)

it's very common to poo when pushing during labor. I did not, because when my contractions started at home, I had the urge to push like that, so I went #2 at home twice. That's ideal if it's possible. Don't be embarrassed if you do poo while pushing, it's completely normal. It's actually the right way to push, and boy does it feel like a. Giant bowel movement is coming through!!!!!

That's funny, cus I watched tlc's "a baby story" religiously while pregnant and I noticed drs and nurses telling moms not to scream as well. I did not scream during labor, but my nurses and drs said it was fine for me to make noise, because I did. Really, it's hard to scream during the push, bc you're so focused and you're also holding your breath. It got to the point (for me) that I was holding my breath for longer than 10 seconds to push and my husband would have to tell me to breathe. I got sooo mad at him! Lol. I just wanted baby out.

It's. Not a good idea for you to drive yourself to the hospital. I recommend calling a friend/family/cab etc.

I did not take any classes, and i'm glad, bc I did fine during labor. It's important to have a nice nurse, as did i, who helped me through the contractions. It's pretty simple, the breathing techniques. My husband and I rented a lamaze tape and it was so boring, I fell asleep! We're so glad we didn't pay money to attend classes!

Good luck to you. It is so worth everything you go through when you have your baby. You'll know what i'm talking about after baby arrives.

Thank you ladies!!
It's good to know that I can just simply let my inhibitions go! Lol~~ I wonder what my husband would think when instead of baby, a big blob of poo poo come out~ :( lol I guess it's good that I won't be able to have sex for 2 months afterwards... Time to forget the sight~ i'm now 35 weeks and I just can't wait~ i've already packed my bags and just basically sitting by the door waiting for contractions to come... Ok.. I prob. Have to sit there a couple weeks but I don't care... I'm so excited!!!!!

Try not to worry, you will soon realize that once labour starts you,ll forget about the questions and just do what comes natural. My midwife told me that mother nature usually makes you empty your bowels before labour starts so that baby has all the room. Obviously it isnt always the case but dont get embarrassed no can help it! I have to say I did make noise during labour it wasnt a full on scream or a grunt somewhere in between I guess! I can honestly say tho that it wasnt something I wanted to do but it was kinda involuntary and I couldnt stop it!! Never drive yourself to hospital while your in labour make sure that there is someone else to take you. Most of all when it is your time push the advice to one side and just do everything that feels right for you. Good luck :)

From a mans persective, don't worry about what is happening below your belly button, it is all marvelous. A baby is on his/her way and all the stuff that goes with it is part of the process.

As far as screaming, my wife pushed for 4 hours, yes 4 hours, the first nurse was new to the labor and delivery ward and she had my wife pushing the wrong way and the baby didn't move for 2 hours and then finally a new more experienced nurse came on duty and after fixing her pushing technique we got going. She was silent as a lamb durring pushing and just before the contractions she would be ready to punch me square between the eyes if I was not holding my leg (her left leg) in the right position and then as soon as the push was over I had to swap out cold wash cloths for my mother in law to hold on her head and then give her a chip of ice and then try to catch my breath and then ".B.R.I.A.N." get back on my leg now I have to push.

A lady next door was basically yodeling but she also went epidural free. I would not recommend it but I am not a woman and so I will never eveer know the joy of no epi vs. Epi. If I had to have a baby I would want general anesthesia and a week of recovery then I would want to see the baby. Lol... :)

you will do fine and no one will care if you pee/poo a bit, the nurse is there to keep everything presentable durring pushing.

#1: during the push part of the labor, i've heard women that have passed stoll or pee peed by accident. Is it something to worry about or is it something that no one cares and happens all the time. It just seems kind of embarrassing
--- first off, it is perfectly normal. And chances are, you won't even notice it if you do. If you have an epidural, you will be cathetorized anyway. So you don't have to worry about peeing!!

#2: screaming. Is it ok to scream during contractions?! I've been watching tlc's baby story religiously lately and there are some doctors that are hushing the woman and tell her to be quiet while she's pushing.
--- it's ok to scream, definitely. The reason doctors try to stop their patients from screaming is that it's energy they're "wasting" that they could be putting into the push.

#3: when husband/support isn't around when contractions really start. What should I do? Should I drive myself to the hospital, call a cab?!
--- I drove myself to the hospital because I didn't have a choice. If you have anyone that can take you, you're better off. I don't suggest driving yourself, i'm surprised I made it to the hospital in one piece!!

#4: anyone never went to lamase/prenatal classes during first pregnancy
--- I only went to one class. I was put on strict bedrest and wasn't allowed to leave my house!! I read a lot, though. :)

I took lamaze from my twelve week point til last week, my twenty first week point. My best friend charlotte took them with me (we were the youngest ones there, and charlotte was the only partner who wasn't a husband/boyfriend! Lol! I'm on bedrest now, so I have to stop. They were pretty helpful though. I know how to breathe! Xddd

Lol my aunt went into the delivery room with one of her friends and she said that the girl kept pooping and pooping and the nurse had to keep cleaning it and cleaning it up for the longest time!

I was just talking to my mom about that earlier today. I hope I don't do that but then again I don't think I will care that much. It's pretty normal and i'll be in a lot pain so I think that might be the last thing on my mind.

Good luck though!

Yell, scream and curse but save some energy for pushing! Are you planning on having an epidural?
Don't worry if you pooh a little, it is totally natural, the medical team has seen worse! I bet you are close now!
Good luck!

Thanks, I actually went to the website and checked it out. I'm at work at those times and unfortunately I don't know how to use my vcr to record. I know, I know...I should be able to work a vcr in this day and age but I just have no clue how to get it to record anything other than static.
