I had noticed my daughters hair getting real thin when she was almost 2. I took her into the doctors office and they referred me to a dermatologist. I took her there and they diagnoced her with alopecia areata..... And said that by the time she hits puberty, she will lose all her hair, head to toe..... Crying or Very sad I know that there is really nothing that I can do for her, and I have tried almost every home remedy in the book ( and computer ), I have her registered on www.Naaf.Org . If there is anyone out there who has found anything to help, besides the cortizone shots, please let me know.
As of right now, I am saving up pony tails approx. 11 in long so that when she does lose it all, I have something there for her. If there is anyone interested in donating, It take about 10 pony tails to create one human hair wig. I am saving dark blonde ponys... But am willing to accept any color and will trade with locks of love. Smile
i am also looking for other children for her to chat with who have the same problem. She gets depressed every time her hair gets thinner, and this year seems to be going at a faster rate than normal. ( over the past few years, around winter, her hair gets real thin and has many bald patches; around summer, she has been growing a lot of it back ) but I feel for my baby, she is growing up I a cruel world with a physical problem..... I love her and hope that there is something out there that will help.

I am open to suggestions..... And hair donations.

My boyfriend who i've been with for just about 5 years has a sister with the same kind of alopecia. She has no eyelashes, eyebrows, hair etc. Sometimes she will have a few spurts but it ends up falling out. She dislikes the wig we got her but she feels comfortable in a bandana. She is 12 years old and she's been coping with all of this really well.

When did this start happening to her? And how have her classmates been through all of this? My daughter still has hair, for now, but right now it is getting real thin on the top and front. She keeps getting bouts of the baldness, mainly during the cooler months.... But have been trying everything over the counter.... Liquid vitamin d, lekair conditioner, sunlight. My daughter seems like she is dealing with this better than I am. Well, I wish her the best of luck in whatever her ventures are! ( i'm too sexy for my hair, thats why it isn't there! )

This started when she was about 7 and since she has had some regrowth but for the past year or so nothing has grown. She doesn't have hair anywhere on her body not even her arms! Her classmates are very used to her looking like this and her mother made sure that she gave out information handouts and showed all the kids a video about it so they could understand. Kids adapt to their situations really well dont they!

Wow
She is truly amazing! I hope my daughter has the same 'luck'. I have gotten information from www.Naaf.Org , I have never thought of a video! Thank you for the idea! The doc's did say that my daughter will lose all her hair by puberty, alopecia universalis. Right now she has alopecia totalis. (do you happen to know where she got the video?) ty!

I am 16 years old going on 17, I have had the same problem as your daughter since I was 6 years old..so i've delt with it all for 10 years. I would ...still do have boughts where it seems like my hair is comming out and then it just falls out again.
It is hard..damn hard I can tell you that. There are a lot of cruel people out there that are waiting to be-little you over the fact you have no hair. But after seeing 10 years of that i've gotten stronger. It was hard for me as a child however. I would more then love to talk to your daughter about it and help her understand what to expect.
I cannot tell you how much it breaks my heart that someone else , anyone else has to go through what I do. It is so sad to see how shallow the world is. And I am happy to help in any way I can, I can't donate any hair as you can guess..but I if you think it could help her I would love to talk to her and help her understand what will happen..it may help her to know she's not alone.
Best of luck.

same problem
hello, i'm a 23 year old female from upstate new york... i've had alopecia my whole life.. i inherited it from my birth mother. i mean i still have a slight bit of hair but nothing on the back of my head... just on the top so i can kind of comb it back a little and make it look like i have a little bangs in the front... no eyebrows, very very little eyelashes, no fingernails, small baby toe nails... we've gone to dermatologists and specialists... nobody seems to know any kind of cure for it or anything.. so im not really sure what kind of help im able to offer to you other than being here if you ever need to talk or if your daughter ever needs to talk. i know what is expected believe me... i grew up in a small town but when i was little, kids were very cruel for a while... then they got used to the fact that mine wasnt going to grow.. but i will tell you, if she ever gets into a fight with someone or any kind of arguement or altercation... they will use that as a "low blow"... because they will always know it will hurt her feelings no matter if she shows it or not.. so i just do hope that she continues being a very strong girl and just let her know that she is still going to be a woman.. and she is fabulous with or without hair... hair doesn't make the person... i know this.. i've gone through it my whole life since day one until 23 years old... so please get ahold of me if you have any questions or just need to talk to someone about it.. i may be a stranger but i know exactly what it is like, and how it affects you and your daughters lives. Thanks and god bless!

Male alopecia
My alopecia began in around 2004, when I was just starting high school, since then nothing has really changed, I have tried various methods to deal with it. I'm interested to see it appears to be more common in females than males. About 2 years ago I began losing my eyebrows and eyelashes along with the hair on my arms and legs. I also have eczema so there are tubes of Hydrocortisone cream here and there, when I apply it to a patch of eczema on my arms or legs the hair which was lost seems to regrow but disappeares days later. So far Hydrocortisone creams don't have an effect on my scalp but I will continue to see anyway. One treatment which I did try, possibly one of the more extreme ones, was an ointment which caused an allergic reaction on my scalp, due to alopecia being an auto-immune disorder (I think!), we couldn't seem to get the concentration right, either there was no reaction or there was too much of a reaction resulting in blisters on my scalp. Emotionally wise, things are fine now, I used to have the odd sad moments but I think my mother is taking it worse than me, another thing to note is that nobody else in my family has had alopecia, although dermatitis seems to run in the family. On that note the event that appeared to cause my alopecia was an accute ear and throat infection where my eczema spread up the back of my neck and onto my scalp. Thats about all the information I have on it so far and I'm curious to know if any of you have any methods to improve the condition at the moment!
PS: As mentioned above, kids at school do use the whole baldness thing as a cheap shot, I myself went through a two year phase where even my friends rejected me because I had no hair, they made fun constantly, eventually I just laughed with them and acted as if it didn't bother me, even if it was an uncomfortable situation, now they don't see any point in making fun and it has no effect on me. My advice to children that have this problem is to try not to show any remorse surrounding their alopecia and the sooner people think that you have no problem with it, the sooner they will get bored and move onto some other person.

mom 35 of 7year old boy with hair loss
Help, I just noticed my seven year old with hair loss on top of his head. It seem like he has taken some clippers and taken his top hair out. Though this does not run in my family or me. I havent taken him to the doctor and its been only over a few months he has been like this. I noticed it the day I brought home from his dads. I dont have medical insurance right this minute. I will though and I will take him straight to a specialist. He has no fever or nothing but my other children pediatrician thinks he might have a fungus cause in the side he has the same skin of a dog. Or when an animal loses hair. Please help if you ever seen something like this.
Thanks,
worried mother of six children.

Hair loss on a 7 year old boy.
Please help my son has lost hair on top of his head.
It looks like clippers wher passed on top only and not to extreme just a portion.
In the side he has like a line with a faded patch like when a dog looses hair because it has been infected a little. I think it might be a fungus but on top he has nothing on the bold spot. its like 6 in long and rectangular looking. Please let me know if anyone knows what this might be. I dont have any medical benefits right now. My other children doctor think also is a fungus but I waiting on his benefits to take effect so the private doctor sees him. Right now Ive been placing cortisone on it and have been given him vitamins.

please help if you have had these symptoms and have had help.

Many vaccines have aluminum and mercury compounds that can cause hair loss. Convential doctors will never agree to this, but I believe it to be true. Seek an experiences homopathic, chinese medicine specialist that has experience in removing heavy metals from the body. It can also be caused my dental fillings...you can research this further. I hope this helps some. Best of luck.
