Q: Yellow tint on baby
asked by: DoctorQuestion on January 3rd, 2006
My 12 month old has a yellow tint to him he has had it since he was born but it is worst now. The bottom of his hands and feet are really yellow and so are his nose oand cheeks. I asked a doctor about it today and he said it was because he eats orange baby food. So is this true or is there somthing else it might be?

Thank you,

General Q&A Answer A79
It might be true that the tint to your son's skin is caused by the food he has been eating. To be certain, you can request laboratory blood analyses to exclude the possibility of icterus. For this, a blood picture and liver status report (AST, ALT, and bilirubin) can be done. Also, it is important to examine bilirubin (direct and indirect). If the laboratory analyses are normal, then the reason for your baby’s yellow pigmentation is probably the food.
