Q: Iud Question mirena

I have had mirena for 18 months now. I haven't had any problems with it until the last few weeks. A couple of weeks ago I started getting nausea, moody, and tired a lot. I didn't think much about it a first, just figured it was from stress. When I went to check for my iud strings I couldn't find them, tried a few times and never could find them. I went to a new doc, cause we had moved. The Dr. Said the end of the strings were up inside my cervix. She said it had just "settled" in. I told her I thought I might be pregnant, she said no the iud is still in place. My ob, the one that inserted, told that the length of the string shouldn't change. I haven't had a period in almost a year now. So I don't know when I would be late. Starting last night I have been sooo crampy, never really get this crampy. I do have a appt. With my Dr., but couldn't get in until jan. 19. I would really appreciate in advice and information you could give me. Thanks for taking the time to read my questions.

Strings can and often do go up just inside of the cervical os. Usually the string change that you need to worry about is them getting much longer, because that can mean expulsion. Have you taken an early pregnancy test yet? Can you have your ob to give you a transvaginal ultrasound? That way you can be very sure the iud is in place :) I have paragard. I did have mirena, but I had prolonged irregular bleeding instead of reduction of the flow. My strings went up into my cervix too. I had them cut very short because I figured that would be best. My paragard strings are longer, and won't be going away. When my strings left, they did an ultrasound.
