An expert psychiatrist can best help you monitor and treat your panic attacks, as well as explain the effects of the specific pharmaceuticals you are taking. It is important to know that high heart/blood pressure that lasts for long periods of time can cause heart damage (hypertrophy and then dilatation). An ultrasound (echogram) of the heart is the best method for detecting such damage. This is most likely why your doctor has ordered this test. Further, people who are stressed can feel various types of pain (or other symptoms) on different parts of the body. These pains often imitate organic diseases; still, they are not a result of organic damage but symbolic manifestations of a patient's psycho-emotional suffering. Most important for the doctor, is to find out if there are any organic reasons for such symptoms. When all the organic possibilities are excluded, a medical professional can then diagnose anxiety, stress or neurosis as the cause for localized pain.
