Hi my names judy im 54 and from wales. Ive noticed that there are not many of us from the uk with tmj and I thought it might be a good idea for us all to be in touch with each other. I myself found found it a great comfort when I spoke to someone who is having the same op as me(a double joint replacement) we have even met up and now stay in contact with each other. We have all seen different specialists and have different tmj stories and im sure that chatting with people so near to us will be helpful to us all.I hope that you will get in touch, but if not I wish you all the best for the future, judy.

Hi!
Hi judy and sam,

hope you are both well!! I think you both replied to what I posted back in september!!! Had my left joint replaced but am now in agony on my right hand side. I was born without a tm joint on my left hand side and the surgery was a total success which makes the pain on my right even more depressing and heart wrenching. I was on morphine in december following post-operative pain however, even such strong medication had little effect!! Since which, I have been tried on every painkiller in existence as well as botox (my mri imaging pre-op showed no problems on my right hand side!!)

my consultant referred me to a psychologist to ensure that the pain was organic in nature and nothing psychological on a sub-conscious level. Despite being totally dumbstruck when he was explaining all this, a few days later I realised that having something psychologically wrong was the best outcome as it meant no further medical intervention (especially surgery!!) alas, have seen a psych and she has put my behaviour at the last consultation down to "having a bad day!!" I am now stuck!! Will hopefully see my consultant in two-three weeks and he will hopefully give me some guidance!! I am now praying that he finds something wrong with the right hand side!! To top things off, I have received three job interviews all down south (i live in yorkshire) wonderful opportunities, however they are all immediate starts and have a three month probation period and they want access to my medical records. I don't have to get back to them for a few weeks yet so am hoping I know what to do till then!!! Sorry for going on a little.....Well alot!! Who is carrying out your surgery?? I didn't think there were many surgeons in the uk doing this sort of thing?? My surgeon is fantastic is extremely competant as well as being very down to earth!!!!

Anyhow do keep in touch

Hi Digby
I think I chatted with you before. It sounds as if the new joint replacement has worked well but the other side is giving you all the agro. How old are you and how long have you had troble with your tmjs.I think you said that you were born without one so it must be quite some time. What joint did you have put in, im waiting for a concept joint and saw my specialist in birmingham on monday.Ive heard that hes the best in his field so much so that his waiting list is 2 to 3 years. My dads 89 and blind and my mum died last year so I try to go to see him most days. I told the dr that I didnt want it yet because if im stressing out worrying about my dad I dont think the op would go well. How many specialists have you seen? And where?Hope things start to look up for you, take care welsh judyx ps hope to chat again soon its lovely having people near to you who know what pain etc we are going through.

Hi Both
Glad to hear that youve got your appointment for your scan that means it wont be long now for you to wait.I also saw a surgeon in bradford his name was mr carol and he was a lovely man but he has retired now because of this I was sent to a collegue of his in liverpool and then on to birmingham.I know im in for a long wait 2 to 3 yrs (unless things get so bad I cant cope) I cant leave my dad that long and I wont even be able to talk to him for a while, hes a bit deaf and I have to shout. As you know my mum died of cancer last year and my dad and I have had a rough time getting over it but with my dad being 90 and blind I just couldnt have the op yet.Woke up to snow today roll on summer, take care all judy.

My jaw urgent
Hello to everyone i am 20 years old and i am suffering probably from TMJ for four years.I have seen some denstists but noone has given me any treatment about my problem. The jaw that has the problem is the right one next to my ear When i open my mouth and i am eating food there is the sound coming from my jaw next to the ear.I donÂșt feel pain but my skin and generally my face from this side has changed comparing to the other side.My skin and chick has become softer and thinner and generally is annoying. At the moment i am studying at Kent so could you possibly advice me some doctors located to London that can help me concerning this problem.

Kindest Regards

Lazaros
