Gall Bladder Symtoms
Posted: 01-01-06 14:02pm

Wow.After a year and a half of stomach pain,i was finally diagnosed with a non functioning gall bladder. The hida showed it was only functioning at 15%.I am having surgery to remove it on jan 3.I have experienced some awful pain lately with this whole ordeal.I had been diagnosed with everything from gerd, gastritis, acid reflux and even bad nerves. And as always my medicine cabinet looks like a pharmacy.Even spent on night in the er because of all of the medicines that I was taking.I just found out about the results of the hida scan a few weeks ago after having this test done months ago!My pain has radiated into my back and it is constant. It feels like someone hit me with a 2x4.I stay nautious and cant eat.I have lost some weight.Everyone that I have talked to about this operation says that I will be fine and well be feeling good again soon.I am petrified at the fact of being put to "sleep".Has anyone experienced these symptoms?I really need some feedback before my surgery. :(

Being "put to sleep" was horrible for me this time, even though I wasn't afraid because I liked it the last time. Sometime during the operation I was awake (better my mind was awake, but not the body, I don't remember feeling any pain), because I remember I wanted to say something or show them something isn't as I wanted it to be. But I couldn't talk and couldn't move. When the operation was over, but I was still under, I started crying and scared the hell out of them all. They say that was highly unusual and they woke me up. But nevertheless, I am very glad i've had the operation, as I really feel better now, all the problems are gone. And not only that, I know how much pain I would be in the future and would have to do it one day anyway. Post operation pain is not as bad as one would imagine. I imagined it horrible. You are up the next day, lacking strenght though, but you are up. And in few days the pain is completely gone. Do pay attention to the food you eat at least for a month and you should be fine.

Nothing really happened!!! And I remember your "rage" post. You have to choose between a life of pain or few days of pain. And also, mind the fact that stones in the gallbladder can cause gallbladder cancer. If it has to be done, have it done.

I had my gallbladder out 10 days ago. As far as the anathesia goes, I had no problem. One minute I was awake in the operating room and the next minute I was awake in the recovery room. There was no sensation of drifting off or getting woozy. It's just one minute you're awake, the next minute you aren't.

I did have a lot of pain though. The first thing I said when I woke up in the recovery room was that I was in pain. I remember telling them three times in the recovery room that I was in pain. They gave me a percoset pill. When I got home, I took a percoset pill every three hours. I would wake up every three hours during the night and I took a percoset for pain. I went through a bottle of 25 pills. Then I went back to vicodin (half a pill) which I was taking pre-surgery. I was very uncomfortable the first week after surgery.

I was only given painkillers right after the surgery, but then I refused them saying it's not that bad. I could tolerate it. Once again. If it has to be done, have it done.
