Bleeding is a serious sign/symptom of
possible miscarriage, but does not always
indicate a miscarriage. About 20% of all
pregnant women experience vaginal bleeding
in the first trimester. Another 5%
experience the same symptoms in the second
and third trimester of pregnancy. Only
half of those who bleed will miscarry.
Sometimes bleeding may be the result of
cervical inflammation, either a polypus
inflammation or a physiological
inflammation. These types of inlammation
occur during expected ovulations and
normal menstrual periods that the body
skips as a result of pregnancy.
Miscarriages before the 12th week are
called “early”; those from 13th to
20th weeks are called “late”. From
the 21th to the 38th weeks there are no
miscarriages; these are termed "premature
childbirths". Injury is a very rare reason
for vaginal bleeding and miscarriage in
the second trimester of pregnancy. The
most common reasons for miscarriages in
this trimester are fetal anomalies,
uterine malformations and tumors (cervical
insufitiention, placenta’s diseases,
cervico-vaginal infections, etc.) Vaginal
bleeding is the result of diseases within
the placenta (placenta praevia, abruption
placenta pretemporalis). In your case,
there is hope for a healthy birth as long
as the fetus is alive.
