How to Deal With Inlaws Or Everyone???
Posted: 12-31-05 21:01pm

Okay, I just found out i"m pregnant and already everyone (my in-laws, dad, etc...) is telling me what I have to do?!?!?!!!

Please tell me how to gracefully get out of that but most of all, how not to let it affect me!!!!!

I know that everyone raises their kids differently, whether they work, or stay home, or have a nanny, etc... But I really don't want people telling me what i'm supposed to do (especially my in-laws!)

thank you!!!

Oh girl I don't think it ever stops. Everyone, esp. My mom and my mother-in-law are always giving advice on how they would do this and that. My mom, that one is easy I just told her "this is our child, and we will raise it how we see fit". My mother-in-law, that is a little more difficult. I just thank her for her "opinion" and tell her that this is the way I do it. I normally just say something like "we all raise our kids the way we think is best". I just take everything with a grain of salt. The people's opinion I utterly despise are those that don't even have children. They say "if that was my child...." I tell them "you always do your best parenting before you have children, you will get your turn one day."
try not to worry and have a great pregnancy!

Great Advice!!

Thank you ashlee, I will keep that in mind and use it!!! I will always remember this is my life and this is the way that we do it and everyone has their own way....Or something like that, i'll have to practice it, but I will!! Hopefully, i'll be a pro soon!

I've also learned on how to tell people too, the way I told my dad and husband (cause my dad was visiting, so I told them both together), there was a big silence and disbelief (even though I had been telling them both I thought I may have been pregnant)..Finally they spoke and were stunned and said, there was a double line?!?! Then they both got really excited!! It was very cute and silly.

We sprong it on my in-laws (with my dad was with us, and my dad's friend who's like and uncle to me - he was sooo excited for us) and my in-laws didn't believe us at all, they kept saying are you joking? And then they were asking us of this is what we wanted and if we were happy, then they said they were too (it wasn't the most positive or happy response) - but I think they thought it was a mistake...We never told them we were trying...Oh well, then they started getting more excited and started telling us what we need to do (more of, what I need to do).

But i'm keeping your advice in my head always and taking everything as a grain of salt, it will blow right by me and i'll always know it's my life!!!

I don't know when i'm due yet or how far in yet, I have to go my gyn, but i'll keep you all posted!!!

Thanks again, and happy new year again!!!
Deb
