Q: Ct Scan Danger

Use this w/ caution. Each timeyou have this done it puts the same amount of radiation as the survivors of the hiroshima bombings. I would use this w/ caution. So many docs say "have one" when it is not yet fully undestood what dangers the test itself can set up for later on. I would try having an mri or another one that is not as dangerous. I had one this year prior to my gallbladder outbreak and nobody informed me of this until after the fact.

this sounds like the garbage they print in some of my wife's gossip magazines. Though you don't want to expose yourself to the ct scan unnecessisarily, there is no evidence that occasional use is dangerous.
Even a ct covering a large area (like the abdomen) would only be exposed to perhaps 500 mrem (thats 1/2 of 1 rem, a measurement of radiation absorption by your body). A hiroshima survivor exposed to a moderate amount of fallout would perhaps receive 300 rem. So the radiation from a ct is no wheres near what a nuclear weapon would confer.

Re: Ct Scan Danger
Allow me to update my information above. I checked with a reliable source, the society of nuclear medicine. The average exposure from a whole body ct scan is 15 to 20 mgy (milligray). The gray is the modern unit of radiation absorption. 1 gray equals 100 rad. Such exposure would be enough to make someone quite sick if it occured in a short period of time. 1 mgy equals 1/1000 gy. So you can see even the exposure from a whle body ct is exceedingly small. Pay no attention to the alarmist above.
I don't know if this site will allow me to place a link, but below is the website if you want to read this article in its entirety.

Really Doe??? We Are Guinea Pigs
How do you know this will not hurt a person??? We are all guinea pigs for the radiation thing...Cellphones, tvs, computers, and most importantly.....Overuse of ct scannning. My goodness..Look about you and see all of the cancer. Why all the people all the sudden??? Use you head and do not think for one minute you are not being used in some type of demented experience! I had a friend who is a neurologist and he came down w/ brain cancer in the exact same spot the cell phone was at. He is convinced and so am I that it was the radio waves coming out of it...

Long ago, they had no ct scans...You ached a little...So what !!! You went home and an apple w/ so whiskey. Now get over it!

I think we all agree not to live inside the big dangerous ct scan machine. Most of us can even live up to the promise of never being in one.

However I have had 4 so I must be about to die of radiation poison? I don't want to die and I didn't mean to have 4, those nasty old doctors made me do it!

We just had a baby too, are my nuts going to fall off too? I want more kids..... :(

your lack of spelling and incoherent sentences bring up a good point……….*cough* not

atleast the post above you stated facts and listed his sources!

Might I add, you stated none!

Youy Igno!!
To the above poster: it does not take a rocket scientist to figure a b =c

come on!!!!!!!!! The true results??? Look at the past at the use of medicine and other things that were supposedly okay for people.

Lobotomy for instance.... It is practically non exsistant now !!!!!!!!!!!! People were being told that is would cure behavior problems...

Now, as far as the resources ect.... Well I can't jump 20 or 30 years into the future, but in the mean time:

a ( person of relatively healthy being) b ( radioactive high exposure or other exposure) = c( death in the body and possible cancer cell activation)

duhhhh quit freaking out everytime you get a pain!!!!!

It might be a good idea to buy a fallout shelter and only use candles or lanterns and go underground.

There is this really bad thing that causes so much cancer every year and they dont even do anything about it. Polaris is so bad!! Its deadly.

Di-hydrogen monoxide is another deadly thing. You need to avoid it at all costs. It kills without mercy, infants, children, men and women are all at risk.

You are right. I cannot say for certain that a ct scan "will not hurt a person". What is known is that any risk is very small. Of couse you want to avoid unnecessary ct scans, or any x-ray for that matter. What you and your Dr. Must decide, is "is the information you will gain from doing the ct scan worth taking this slight risk." scientists are still trying to determine if the information obtained from using ct scan as a "screening proceedure" is worth the risk. If you are having bad headaches, abdominal pain, persistant cough, etc. And your Dr. Suggests a ct, you can be certain that the risk of ignoring the problem will be far greater than the slight risk of cancer. Furthermore, people do far more damage to their bodies with cigarettes, snuff, alcohol, drugs, sedentary lifestyle, and excessive eating than 1000 whole body ct scans could cause. Same thing with cell phones. Responsible use will not hurt you.
Relax.

i've heard about di-hydro monoxide. It causes hundreds if not thousands of deaths each year. If it escapes from containment it can cause thousands, even millions of dollars in damage. In its gasous form it can cause severe burns. In it's liquid form it can cause death by asphyxiation. Don't you agree this chemical should be banned, or at least be better controlled?

Well congratulations! You just banned water! The above is called pseudo-science. It is basicly the same type of nonsense written above about ct scans being dangerous. Used responsibly and carefully, there is nothing wrong with either.

Yes as rediculous as bannning water sounds, that is how rediculous banning ct scans is.

There are very valid reasons for having these machines and there is very logical science to using them as well.

So if banning the sun and banning water is out of order, maybe the post that has actual technical jargon, entailing rads, rems and other radiological terms has some basis in science.

Like the other "guest" said, don't live in the ct scan machine.

Just for further understanding, I have a charite artificial lumbar disc in the l5/s1 area of my spine. It is made of cobalt chrome and 308 surgical stainless steel. I cannot go into an mri, however I can have contrast (more radiation) put in and be examined by a ct scan.

Okay so you and I and a whole lotta people have had a ct scan done at least one time. But were you told about the radiation and its risks before being given the test? I was not told anything. Now, why is this???

Think

think

and think some more

medicine is not like ity used to be where the patient was virtually ignorant of the body. Today we do have access to information. So now medicine has to be a little tricker about how they treat an individual. I certaintly was not told about the radiation and risk. I am not even sure if there was a written document to be signed regarding this. The reason being....There is no proof yet....So let it be known. I am here to have people think about their bodies. If you are in major pain and you feel like you are dying, then yes have it done. But for routine exposure....I would say put your thinkin cap on!!!!!!!!!!!

I know of a local doctor that I have seen five or six times ans has ordered a ct scan on me evertime!!! He know I have seen him this many times...Of course I did not have it done. But I challenge you to do the samme in your area.... So ya spend a couple of hundred doin this.... It will reveal a lot...:)

I was told about the risks both times I had ct scans. And the only time they ordered this test was when I it was a serious matter. Having this diagnostic test far outweighed the possible risk I ran not having it done.

How do you know that? In ten years, people will be cropping up with odd cancers because of it

Internet troll alert. Don't feed the troll.

Definition of an internet troll.
"on the internet, troll is a slang term for a person who posts messages intended to create controversy or provoke an angry response rather than to add content to a discussion."

Yes, definatly a troll!

Although he got me thinking, the entire worlds medical community is working together to harm all people by zapping them like popcorn in a microwave except their weapon of mass destruction is the seemingly "benign" ct scan. I cant believe I never figured it out before this.

I was windering why the dentist, family doc, orthopedic sports med doc, orthopedic spine doc, urologist, my wifes ob/gyn, the maternity ward nurses and even the medical secretaries were always trying to get us to go in the ct scan room.

No I know, they are all conspiring against humankind with total reckless abandon.

Take this as a warning, if the doctor asks you to go in for a ct scan, cover your genitals with aluminum foil or you might go sterile.

I forgot, if a doctor you have never seen asks you to go in for a ct scan, run. Last time I was at the hospital doctors kept approaching me about trying their "new" ct machine and what I found out is when you get in there, its not a new ct machine....... Its a brothel and they make you sell yourself to the "ct" machine.

Dont go anywhere near a place that has one of those things and stay away from doctors unless they are doctors from the native tribes in borneo, those guys are awesome and "all-natural"

x-ray radiation safety
I don't know you better all start doing research if you are that interested. The national radiation association states "THERE IS NO SAFE DOSE OF RADIATION" you never know how radiation from x-rays or CT will affect a subject. The strength of ones immune system is also a factor. What was originnaly written about heroshime is not far from the truth. I have seen the records after heroshema that document the ammount of exposure, you can find them on line also. My husband went through work injuries and had many CT's x-rays and fluroscopies. A flouroscopy is an x-ray beam running for an ammount of time his usual time was about 2 1/2 minutes. This is used in many procedures to guide the operation. Anyway immediately he began blood abnormalities in blood. A year later he developed anemias and clots, and after 3 years total he wound up with a huge mass in his mediastinal which was a mass that is caused by ionizing radiation. All the doctors say it wasn't the x-rays. Well if you were a carpenter would you like someone to take your hammer away. You wouldn't be able to work. Well reality is reality. It has been proven many times and in numerous experiments and documanted Radiation DOES cause DNA damage. The way your body responds and recouperates from that damage depends on immune system and IF you keep having the same damage occur over and over. It is possible to develope masses. I can attest to that. And once they start Doctors do not know how to stop them yet, and they progress rapidly. So again as many have stated. You really need to weigh the pro's and con's. If there are blood tests that could also indicate what is going on I suggest them instead.. What ever is suspected as going on with your body ...educate yourself find out... don't beleive every doctor... find out and ask question... ask if there are other tests... get second opinions... mostly LOOK at your own test results ALWAYS ALWAYS you could save your own life

Sorry, but most people don't know what they are talking about.
Most of the posts on here are ignorent... sorry but it is true. A human body is constantly bombarded by radiation not only from the sun, but also from space and the earth itself. the average humans,(if I remember my studies correctly), are dosed with about 300 mRads per year just by living on earth. The main point of radiation protection is not to avoid radiation but to limit it. The person that posted that there husband got cancer from a flouro study could be correct, but is probably not. it is more likely that he got cancer from the massive amounts of radiation over his lifetime from the red brick fireplaces at the house, or going hiking in the mountains, or a plane flight to somewhere, or maybe just sitting on the couch in the living room. People, please don't be alarmists.
