Q: Lower right back pain diagnosis
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 28th, 2005
Experiencing pain in lower right back - emanating down my right side. I feel it has to do with the liver, doctor thinks its bladder infection. Took antibiotics for 5 days - pain is still there. Wants to do a cat scan now. What other possibilities are there?

FIRST you can order a LABORATORY ANALYSES of the blood (blood picture, hemoglobin, hematocrit, sedimentation, liver profile, urea, creatinin, uric acid, bilirubin) and urine (proteins, urobilinogen, bilirubin, erythrocytes, leucocytes, nitrates). Additionally, you might want an ULTRASOUND examination of the inner abdominal organs. Because you are a woman, a gynecological examination is also recommended. A CT-scan could be done after all these examinations have been completed. The results from these examinations will help your doctor to eliminate and identify possible causes.
