Hey everone! How are you all today? I have a few questions about the "mini pill" that I was hoping you could help me out with. My doctor gave me a prescription for the mini pill a couple of months ago. The reason for her putting me on the mini pill instead of a regular birth control pill was because I was still breastfeeding occasionally. Well, I wasn't able to get my prescription filled until recently and now I am no longer breast feeding at all. I read all of the papers on the mini pill and it doesn't say that you have to be breast feeding in order for this pill to protect agianst pregnancy. One of my questions is, do you think it would be safe to go ahead with the pill even though I am no longer breatfeeding. This pill has the same effectiveness as other pills, the side affects (like weight gain) is just reduced... Which is one of the main reasons I would like to start and continue the mini pill. My next (and last) question concerning the mini pill is, are any of you currently on the mini pill or have any of you ever been on it? Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated!

God bless,
teresa

Hi. I've always heard that the mini pill is less effective than combination pills. Have you been on any kind of pill before? You might want to try a combination pill first. If you can't find a brand that works for you, then you can always switch to the mini pill later.

The mini pill is slightly less effective than combo pills, but many women continue to use them because they like them. There are less side effects for some women on the mini pill, so after breastfeeding they may continue to take them. I would say it is completely up to you and your doc, but as long as you are happy with your pill there is no problem with its continued use.
