Q: Sexual Health - Men Question
asked by: DoctorQuestion on December 27th, 2005
My husband just started ejactulating blood when we have sex. He does not urinate blood, but is ejaculating pure blood. His father had prostate cancer, and his mother had breast cancer, so we know it runs in the family. He has a hard time getting off to go to the doctor, and as I just said, it just now started happening to him. He is going to the doctor in a couple of weeks, but wanted a general idea of what it was so he would not be so ignorant going into that. He has no pain, or swelling with this problem.

Sexual Health - Men Answer A32
Your husband would most likely benefit from seeing his doctor immediately. The blood that he ejaculates during sex may originate from the genital system (prostate gland, seminal vesicles, ejaculatory ducts, vas deferens, epididymis or testicles). Several physical exams (rectal exam, for example), laboratory analyses (sperm, blood and urine analyses, PSA), imaging tests (ultrasound, CT-scan) and other procedures (endoscopic cystoscopia) can be requested and performed in order to diagnose and identify the cause for ejaculating blood.
