Q: Black Outs

I've been diagnosed with sle for about 18 months though i've probably had much longer. Last night I got up to get a drink of water around 3 am and blacked out in the bathroom. This has happened once before a couple of years ago. Had 2 healthy glasses of wine earlier in the evening which may have contributed, but had not had any alcohol the previous time it happened. I take plaquenil, imuran and synthroid daily to control the lupus.

Anyone else ever had this happen? Think this a relationship between the lupus and hte black outs or just coincidence?

Thanks for any feedback. Think i'll lay off the wine for awhile anyway! Dreamt about walking on tightropes the rest of the night!

Hi, I was diagnosed on may 11th of this year. What a disease huh? I have had episodes of dizzy spells and almost having blackouts but never have I actually blacked out. Before I was on any meds my equal librium was really off! I couldn't even watch the rides at disneyland or I would get sick and dizzy.

I have other symptoms such as sore joints and muscles. After drinking alcohol it's worse. After doing anything strengous it's worse. The sun is my enemy now. I don't suffer from skin rashes but the sun does wear on me. Hair loss (in patches), memory loss, the lupus fog, lack of concentration and focussing, vision impairment, swelling in my ankles, legs, fingers and hands, occasional fatigue, depression, etc..... Well, love to hear from you. It's been good talking with others. Cheap therapy! Talk to you soon, gena

Lupus
Hi,
yes...Major problem for during what I term, bad bouts..Not yet dx but living with s/s for years, finally with immunologist who agrees with my "enough is enough" theory and has given me prednisone, ultram, and diuretic due to the protien in my urine...Blood tests (9 viles worth) back in few weeks.... I have found that nothing helps with these blackouts and there is no warning or method....I even get them when I am sitting down, only out for a few seconds when I go completely out, most times just have to plop down on my butt or hang my head between my knees...Its like blackness just engulfs me and I nodd out...Husband says the look in my eyes is like a zombie...I do find they are less often if I drink lots of water...I like wine too, but very dehydrating...I'd say drink even more water when you have wine...It's what I do...Good luck!

unexplained black outs
My best friend's daughter has been experiencing weird black outs over the last year. They are beginning to look connected to her cycle as they seem to occur at the beginning of her period. When she goes "out" you can not wake her! It has to run it's course. A dr. friend commented that she appears to be in a deep state of REM sleep. She often gets nausea or feels "weird" a couple of days before it hits. She's on birth control as they've tested her for everything and are trying to see if controlling her hormones will help. NOthing! On the 4th type and no relief. The longest she's gone without the blackouts is 10 weeks. They may last a few days to a week at times. I'm wondering if she has Lupus. Her aunt has it and the drs have ruled out heart problems, seizures, blood pressure issues. Forgot to mention when she blacks out all her vitals are stabilized. It's stressing all of us out as well as taking her life.
