Q: Pains In the Head

Have been looking all over the web for something similar or some answers. My 9 1/2 year old son has been getting pains in his head. He gets a sharp pain and then a hot sensation and when this happens he says he feels like a hole opens up in his tongue. The episode lasts he says about maybe 10 to 15 seconds. He says that he has been getting these for some time. He is in 3rd grade now and says he remembers getting them in 2nd grade but he can't remember if he got them before that. He gets these maybe once or twice a month. The pain was always located in one paticular spot on the head but now he's got them in different spots but the symptoms are always similar. I took him to his pediatrician who performed a neurological exam and said everything was normal and she didn't seem to think it was anything serious and recommended he see a pediatric neurologist. We took him to a neurologist and he also did a neuro exam and said that it was normal and he doesn't think that it's anything serious. He says maybe migraines or a type of seizure. Has anyone else had anything similar? My first concern was a brain tumor but neither seem to think so. Could these be ice pick headaches? The whole tongue thing weirds me out. Could this just be a nerve getting tweaked somewhere? One time he described the pain like something popped in his head and another time he said the pain felt like it crawled from the back of his head to front down to his eye. One day he said he got a pain that made his scalp sore like a bruise. Anyone out there please help. I am really concerned about this.

I just saw your post and while I know you posted a long time ago I still wanted to try to reply. I am older then your son (i'm 21) but my symptoms match almost perfectly. The only difference is that mine are much more frequent. I have them about every 2.5-3 hours. It is a horrible pain that feels like a stabbing and before I can take any medication it is gone. I have been to the doctors twice and have an appt tomorrow to get a cat scan done. The doctors have no clue what it is so they just try to say that it is a headache or a migrane. However I know that it is not... Mostly because the symptoms don't match. My only symptom is the head pains, no nausia, no vomiting, etc... Just head pains.
Anyway I wanted to post and find out if you found anything out. If so please enlighten me and if not then I will repost if I find anything out.
Thanks
