I have been reading everyone talking about
ice pick headaches and I am not sure if
this is what I am having. Someone
help....
I am a 36yr old and it started about 5
years ago and then went away. It starts
with blurred vision and a sharp pain in
the back left side of my head. Along with
the blurred vision, I see spots. It
usually lasts about 15-30 minutes, I take
aspirin and it eventually goes away.
Now, 5 years later it is starting again
only this time I am experiencing it at
least 3-5 times a week. It is kind of
scary. I am not sure if this is headaches
or what. Can anyone help me. Thanks

My Story Posted: 12-23-05 00:36am
Hello everyone.
I hope my little but some what long story
will help all of you!
I am 31 and for the past 14 years I have
been dealing with same pain as all of you
have described. It's all seemed to have
started when I was 18 years old. I was
also having a sudden sharp pain in the
ear,eye and top of head area. It seemed
like someone had just shoved a knife in my
ear and it was coming out my eye. My eye
would feel like it had just sunk into my
skull. The pain at first would only last
a few minutes then slowly fade away. It
wasn't until I was about 20 when I finally
went to the doctor for the first time. I
was sent to a neurologist and I was
diagnosed with trigental neuraglia.
(don't know coreect spelling) I was put on
neurotin. The medication was doing
nothing. For the next 4 years I spoke to
tons of neurologist and pain clinic
doctors. They finally gave up on me and
said they that I was making up the pain.
For 4 years I was living on pain killers
that I got so immuned to that they were
doing nothing for me. I then one night
sat at my computer and just happened to do
a search on trigental neuroliga, and a
doctor from the pittsburgh area where I am
from was on there. He happened to develop
this operation to relieve the pain from
patients dealing with this unrepairable
diagnoses. I couldn't believe that io had
finally found a doctor that might be able
to help me after all these years.
Afterall the pain had gotten so bad over
the years, the pain seemed to have never
went away. I made a appointment with his
office, and told his nurse about the
problem I have been having. Within a few
minutes from hanging up the phone with
her, the doctor had called me himself to
tell me to get to his office asap. The
first thing he did was perform a cat scan
and mri. The following week when my
results were back, I was back in his
office getting a real diagnoses. I don't
really know what the medical term is, but
he called it rosner's syndrome. What is
it? When you get old, everyone's brain
sinks, but it is nor supposed to sink
below a certain level. Mine brain on the
other had was too big for my head.
(that's what he told me folks) my brain
had sunked so low that it was crushing my
spinal stem in half. He said that my
brain was to big and the pressure from all
the fluid and blood had no where to go, so
it was pushing the brain further done into
my neck. We then discussed operating, to
fix the problem. I underwent the
operation 6 years ago, march of 1999. It
changed my life. It wasn't the most
easiest thing I had to indure, but I must
say, it took my pain away. I have been
healed now for 6 years and it feels great.
Now I do have to say, that when I had my
first child, the pain did come back 1 week
after giving birth. It was caused my the
pressure for the epidural. The pain only
lasted for about 1 month or so.
So please I hate to hear about all your
pain. I only wanted to share my story
with you, because I know how much pain I
was in, and there was only one doctor,
that was able to take care of me. So
please all go to the doctor and tell them
you want a mri and a cat scan, to make
sure your brain is not pushing on
something it;s not supposed to.
P.S. I don't believe, you have migrains.
I really think you need to get mri's!
Please post back to let me know if my
story helped anyone out. Or if you have
any other questions.
Good luck to all

These often respond to indomethacin,
between 75 and 150 mg daily.

My boyfriend just started getting these
the other day. Once we figured out what it
was, we gave him one 24-hour Claritin-D
and the "ice pick" headaches stopped
immediately. He'd had them on and off for
two days... it's now been a week since he
took the allergy pill and he hasn't had
one since.
We started using decongestant allergy meds
on his migraines after a friend of mine
told me they worked for him. Now whenever
he starts to get a migraine, he takes an
allergy pill and it stops the headache.
If you decide to try it, remember to get
an allergy pill WITH a decongestant... the
regular allergy pill isn't enough. So get
Claritin-D from the pharmacist, not
regular Claritin from the shelf. Target
also offers a Target brand generic, but
you need to ask the Target pharmacist for
the decongestant allergy pill... don't
just pick up the box on the shelf.
Hope this helps other people, too. It's so
frustrating to see so many people with the
same condition, yet so few people come
back to say what helped them!
