Hi pigglet,

yes, in fact in addition to being very anxious, I was very fatigued (weak) and had a lightheadedness/dizziness that lasted over 2 months.

It turns out that it was all psychogenic. Meaning, there's not an organic cause or disease causing these symptoms. The stress in your body is.

In addition on having neuromuscular therapy, reducing stress and changing my eating habits (certain types of food cause anxiety) I recently went to see a psychologist.

The effect of psychotherapy in people with anxiety is tremendous. It's all about treating the root of all your problems. In my case, even though I was lightheaded and wear, I was told I had nothing, it was all in my head. (the symptoms were there, caused by my extreme worrying).

I started walking the next day, at a slow pace. It's been 2 weeks now and I am in much better shape. The lightheadedness stayed, but it's now down about 85%.

Which means that I am no longer fatigued, and only 15% lightheaded.. And confident that it will go away in the long run.

So don't fret about your symptoms, because it's nothing serious. People with anxiety should never let these things interfere with life. I spent 2 months worrying and decided to put and end to it. Recovery has been slow, but worth it.

It is amazing what anxiety Can do. I too have had the weakness feeling like I need to eat something to get some strength back and the dizziness, walking around feeling numb all over. Its all wierd as can be. I've learned to deal so much better with anxiety buy putting my mind as quick as can be on say, a beautifull sunset, the ocean, etc. we all need techniques. work on that and it will help alot.

Hello,

thanks alot for the advice.........I am always worrying about this weakness and lightheadedness because it is constantly and very very uncomfortable. In addition to these symptoms I get about 3 hrs of sleep which I think makes my symptoms really worse. I feel as though my body will give out. Anyhow I was wondering by simply doing blood tests would this rule out any terminal disease?

Thank you

Hi pigglet,

that's exactly one of the causes of extreme anxiety. These symptoms make us believe that we have a horrible or chronic disease and that doctors can't find anything.

And then it turns into a vicious circle: the fatigue and dizziness makes you wonder what you have, therefore causing anxiety; while the fatigue and dizziness are usually the result of having an anxiety disorder! So it all adds up and it doesn't go away.

Blood tests determine a series of things.. For example, lightheadedness/dizziness is usually caused by a disorder in the ears, or low blood pressure... And if it's organic, it's not usually on all day. Same happens with fatigue... A doctor was about to diagnose me with fibromyalgia and look at me! I was able to complete my xmas shopping and I never felt weak again.

My advice for you would be, try to think what caused this anxiety in the first place, you probably went thru a very stressful situation that has you expressing these symptoms.

I am sure it's nothing serious and let me know how it goes. I am confident that you will get well.

Merry xmas

Hello,

thanks again for your support. Well yes you are right basically what happened 3 years ago is that I fainted unexpectly in the middle of the night.
Ever since then, I alawys feel as though there is something wrong with me or i'm going to faint again. All of my symthoms started since then, and I can never feel normal again ever since. I keep my fingers cross and pray that I will someday soon wake up and feel normal again. Well i'm glad to hear that you are okay, it gives me hope and inspires me since I often feel as there is no hope for me.

All the best of health and happiness 4 2006

Dizzyness/lightheaded
Before I got my anxiety under control I found myself dizzy and lightheaded. It was all the stress and anxiety I was going through and my body's reaction to it. Now I seem to have it under control.

I naturally have bouts of dizzyness/lightheaded around that wonderful time of month because I have an iron deficiency. It drops and causes me to become lightheaded and weak feeling. But that I have and am learning to control as well.

So as you see there are lots of us who can relate.
Take care, hope you are feeling well soon.

Hello,

thanks there are times where I feel so frustrated that I wanna yell because I feel that I can never be normal again. I become so depressed because there seems to be no hope for me. No one around me understands i've become a burden on everyone.........I feel as though I have a terminal illness...........But in some sense it makes me feel a little normal once I hear that im not the only one who is going through this.

Just Want to Yell.
I am totally in the same boat. Reading your entry totally clicked with me. I feel the same way. I worry sometimes that I am going to be like this forever. I really get frustrated that I have to go everyday and get anxious because I am frightened that I am going to die. It makes it hard for me to function. Sometimes I am afraid to move, but I make myself because I do not want to get worse than I already am.

It is hard, no one understands at first. But they eventually will. There is a lot of information online that you can print off and maybe it will help understand your situation. That is what I did with my mother, and it helped a great deal. I felt like a burden at first too...I felt like I ruined every outing that we had. But it was my anxiety not me.

Take care, write anytime.

Re:
hey guys i have been having the same thing for about 3 months

it started right around my dad left because his job is in another state than where my mom and my bro moved to. we are moving back with him though soon so i hope that that will help Smile

i have been worried sick for several months. (worrying does not help!!)

like paneseeker said: 'its all in your mind...stay positive' (sorry about your father)

everyone stay positive and tell yourself over and over 'im going to be fine, im a perfectly healthy person'

ive found that when i find activities and things to get my mind completly off it, it goes away. then i think about it and it comes back.. so yes, it is a vicious circle... you wonder and wonder what you have and you need to realize its all in your head...

Anxiety advice
You all suffer from anxiety and all the advice on here is to put gasoline on fire by trying to take your mind off of it, thinking of happy images or cute puppies. That my friends is suppressing it and it's the most deceiving anxiety trick. That's why anxiety comes back. I've done the same thing for two years in a row until I recently tried the other approach: Just feel it, be upset that you have it, but don't try to make it go away. It is a natural reaction to extreme stress and once you have it, it will return periodically, but if you learn to cope with it by accepting it, it will not stay with you every day but instead it will come visit you in stressful situations or time of grief and when it does, let it stay. It's the only way to stop its debilitating effects.

Adrenal Hormones and anxiety
If your blood tests show normal levels of glucose, iron, blood pressure, electrolytes, vitamin D and blood pH, consider having your adrenal hormone levels checked also, especially aldosterone. If your body isn't absorbing sodium correctly, it will cause lightheadedness, weakness and fatigue.
Anxiety can really burn out your adrenals, and adrenal weakness can cause anxiety. Your adrenal glands affect so many body functions, including blood pressure, insulin regulation and heart and thyroid regulation.

If you suffer from anxiety and stress, take good care of your adrenal glands, so they can take care of you. Learn all you can about your own adrenal function, and you may just be able to relieve your anxiety problem. Smile

wow, I was recently treated for 2 ear infections and felt weak and dizzy all the time and now that they're gone, I still feel that way. I also was in the hospital for dehydration and that could be another factor too. But I have been having major panick attacks, mainly about feeling as if i'll never get better and how much work i'm missing because of this. It's very stressful to feel so helpless and just to relax when you are normally on the go. But it helps that I'm not alone and that I'm not crazy.

My lightheadeness experience..
Hey,

It is so nice to hear others' experiences that are so similar to my own! I have been experiencing this horrid lightheadedness for about a month now, and am going through the blood test routes that alot of you seem to have been through...but I have found after really committing myself to relaxation and meditation, it does help lift it, not completely as yet, but it definately improves it.

I also was in hospital with dehydration a couple of months ago in the same week as finding out some life-changing news about my Mum, so it is soooo obvious it's anxiety and stress, but it certainly doesn't stop this continuous worry that something sinister is wrong with me!! It really is about being positive, and really concentrating on positive affirmations like, 'I WILL get better, and feel better, the lightheadeness WILL go' etc etc, it's tough, but it is working for me. Plus once you've engrained positive thoughts, they are much easier to access when you are worrying about your symptoms (which feed into the physical symptoms even more).

Best of luck everybody, and keep working at it!

I have had the same problem for the last nine years. The last two years have been so much better though. Anxiety can ruin your life. You definitely feel like no one understands. Luckily, I have a very understanding husband who does. I also started talking to a few friends and found out that they were having the same symptoms, (being lightheaded, fatigued and sometimes feeling like they were going to die. My friend told me about a program that she was on and made me copies of her cd's. I also bought the book. It is called from Panic to Power by Lucinda Bassett. You may have seen her on late night infomercials for the Midwest Center for Stress and Anxiety. These tapes and book really helped me alot. I realized how much your "Negative" thoughts can rule your world and mind. If you are looking for something to help I would definitely recommend this program.

Right now I find that my my symptoms seem to be more seasonal, especially starting in October. I am now trying to figure out why. Also pre-menopausal.... Good Luck to everyone who is fighting this battle. It can be won!! My life is truly getting better.

lightheadedness
hello all i am a 20 year old male who had to stop playing football last year because of Epstein Barr Virus. i was constantly fatigued, lightheaded and it was sort of a rocking sensation that occured for a long period of time. after sulking and resting for months summer came around and i felt much better. as i left for school in the fall the symptoms came back. i have gone to the doctors many times, had MRI's of my brain, blood tested, saw the ENT, neurologist and everything was fine except i was slightly anemic. My mother suffers from generalized anxiety so i made an appointment with the pyschiatrist and was prescribed Lexapro. i have been taking it for about 20 days now and i wanna say i am feeling better but it is still there. it is very hard to be happy but i try my best to live my life. reply if you have any info. Thanks
