Protein In Urine With Normal Blood Pressure

I am 23 weeks pregnant, but at my last
appointment the nurse told me I have had
1+ protein in my urine since 15 weeks
pregnant. I have normal /low blood
pressure and no swelling, so the doctor
said they are not concerned since I have
no other symptoms. Has anyone else ever
had this happen? The one doctor said it
could even be from vaginal discharge in
sample since they are not clean catches of
urine. Any info would be great.

...I don't really have any info for you,
but my neighbour had the same thing. They
found protien in her urine at about 24
weeks, and totally freaked her out..Told
her she'd have to see a specialist and all
this stuff...But a few weeks later they
decided that it wasn't really anything of
concern..And she had a baby boy ini june
and he was perfectly fine and healthy. So
don't get yourself all stressed out about
it...Because i'm sure your babe will be
fine
best of luck

Thanks for the encouragement......Do you
know how much protein it was and if she
had it on more than one occasion? Mine
has been there since week 15. It hasn't
increased and like I said, I don't have
other symtoms. Did your friend have high
blood pressure?

I'm not sure how much protein it was, but
it was enough to make them start
considering the baby might have...Spinal
fibida I think it was...It was in her
urine from the time they first noticed it
until she gave birth. She did not have
high bloodpressure or anything else. She
was put on bedrest, but i'm I don't think
that was related to the protein think it
was to the fact that she had a stressful
just (and she is a really tiny build
woman, so the preg was a big change for
her body) ...But like I said, her baby was
fine.
Best of luck

If you ever run into her,i would be
curious how much protein she had in her
urine. Mine is 1+ I have never heard
of protein in urine being associated with
spina bifida. I bet that was scary for
her. I already have a son and that
pregnancy went fine without high blood
pressure. I have heard that preeclampsia
is more likely to occur during the first
pregnancy.........Not sure.

"it is normal to obtain results of a trace
to 1+ during pregnancy, either because of
the small amount of protein present in the
urine or because extra vaginal discharge
during pregnancy. A reading of 2+ or
above is considered significant and may be
of concern."
i did a bunch of research on this when I
found out my neighbour had protein in her
urine and saved a bunch of sites. Living
in a small town we're all really close and
help eachother...So I was determined to
find some anwsers for her ... Her's
was higher than +1, I know that for
sure..I want to say it was +2...But i'm
not certain.
Hope this eases your mind. I'm sure
everything will be fine since its only +1

Well, thanks again for all of
that..........I really appreciate it.
Your neighbor is lucky to have you.
Sometimes I think it is overwhelming all
the different things they test you for.
Of course, anytime you find out something
could be amiss, you start to go into panic
mode. So, thanks again. I find this
info very hopeful!!! I'll keep you
posted on how things are going if you'd
like.

Ya, i've never been pregnant, but everyone
I know who has always panics if one tiny
little thing isn't perfectly normal..Which
is understandable. I'm sure you and your
baby are fine. Whens your due date??
Keep us posted 8-)

My due date is april 9th, but I am having
a repeat c-section, so I will deliver a
week prior to that if all is well.
I just pray I develop no more symptoms of
the preeclampsia and the protei in my
urine goes away. Do you know if your
friends protein returned to normal after
she delivered or did they just stop
checking it?

She never mentioned anything more about
the protein after the baby came, so I
think they stopped testing for it.

Well, I go to the doctors tomorrow ( I am
almost 28 weeks ) and I am hoping that
maybe the protein will be gone. I've
been drinking more water and I am going to
do a "clean catch" in hopes that it makes
a difference. I'll keep you posted.

Well...........Good
news..............There was no protein in
my urine yesterday. I don't know if it
was drinking water and doing the clean
catch that made the difference, but boy
was I relieved when she said it was
negative!!!! Now I am just hoping my
glucose test comes back ok and then I can
just look forward to the birth of my
son.......Assuming nothing new creeps up!
Thanks for your help in this situation.
I'll keep you posted on everything.

I am also having this problem with protein
and normal blood pressure...My obgyn dont
seem to be too concerned by it because she
said as long as my blood pressure is
normal then they will just keep a watch on
it. I have no swelling either. Let me
know if anyone else out there has this
same problem.

How far along are you? My urine has been
negative for protein the last 3 visits now
( I am currently 33 weeks ) it really
worried me because I had it in my urine 3
visits in a row. I have been doing clean
catches every time now. I don't know if
that makes the difference, but the doc
told me that vaginal discharge ( which we
all know are increased during pregnancy)
can contaminate the urine and cause it to
read that you have protein sometimes.
Good luck and keep me posted. Do you
know what your protein level was? Mine
was 1+

I had protean in my urine with my first
baby and then my blood preasure went up
and my blood count went down. I do know
that if you have the enough proten in your
urine they will do a 24 hour test on you.
Its the test that you collect your urine
for 24 hours and they test it. You
didn't have enough in your urine to do it
then I wouldn't worry.
However you have had good visits since
then . Good for you.

How long did you have protein in your
urine before the blood pressure rose?
Usually they say that protein shows up at
the same time your blood pressure is
higher or after your bp rises. Just
curious.
I went to the docs again on monday, and I
had trace protein again. My blood
pressure is still normal though. No
change at all. So this protein thing has
happened to me a lot since 15 weeks
pregnancy and so far no change in swelling
or blood pressure. I wonder how common
this is in pregnancy women.

I had protein in my urine the whole time
but I had very high counts in my urine.
And that was from day one of my pregnancy.
My blood pressure was thru the roof.
But with this pregnancy I have had a trace
of protein in my urine but not enough for
them to worry about and I probiblity
wouldn't have known about it if I didn't
ask about it every time I go in to the
doctor's office. I don't think a trace
is enough for you to worry about because
you may not have gotten a clean catch.

Do you do clean catches every time also?
So, you had high blood pressure since your
first visit last time? Boy, you had it
rough.....Did you have to deliver early?
Have you had protein in your urine
throughout this entire pregnancy too? My
docs don't seem concerned either.

I did have to deliver early because I
started to have eclamptic seizers. I had
toxemia very badly and inorder to make it
stop they had to deliver me. The baby
was soo small and his heart was a little
messed up (didn't develope correctly). I
did have it rough. I did do clean catches
but even if I didn't the amount in my
urine was soooo much that it didn't have
much to do with the catch.
This pregnancy so far so good. I had a
slight trace in my urine last visit on
february 10th but it could have ment that
my catch wasn't very good. They sent it
to trace and they didnt' call me so I
guess everything was ok. I'll find out
at my appointment on the 9th.
Hun you have made it this far...If you are
forced to deliver early your baby will be
fine. I had to deliver at 24.5 weeks and
hunter just wasn't big enough. Just
breath and relax becuase stressing abut it
will only make your blood pressure go up.
