Hi everybody. Been going thru & reading posts, trying to find something relevant to my situation.
For the past 2 weeks i've had a generally itchy front thigh, with a few pink spots on it, one being pretty much bigger than the rest. This thigh itched before, months ago, and the now pink patch bled when I scratched it. About a year ago, my thigh tingled, and was numb, and more recently the itchy area had a slight burning sensation. I was using over the counter anti-itch creams (steroid based), but have switched to a natural vitamin e & tea tree oil cream, which controls the itching pretty well. Since i've scrupulously avoid scratching the area, i've had no bleeding, but the pink patch, roughly rectangular, remains.
It doesn't look like a classic melanoma---reasonably well defined, I guess, and mono-colored, pink. I don't know if it's growing or not. Sometimes it seems to be healing, other times, in my more paranoid moments, it seems bigger, but it's unclear in my mind. Like cantwait2bmom's, when I press on it, the pinkness disappears until the skin springs back, but it's definitely larger than a freckle, I think.
I've been experiencing a bit of "malaise", but that may be a mild cold, and i've experience similar, but when I saw a doctor, temperature and vital signs showed up normal. (i read a malaise accompanied by itching could be serious).
I don't like going to doctors. For the past decade or so, doctors have generally "diagnosed" me with "anxiety" and "depression", which I accept partially, but not totally. Anyway, I feel embarrassed about appearing like some crazy hypochondriac, so I try to limit how often I "run to the doctor".
Crystal111's comment about her in situ melanoma has me a little confused. I usually hear the waiting time to see if a lesion, etc. Heals as 2 to 3 weeks, but she said she waited 5 to 6 years, and that it was good that she caught it "early". 5 to 6 years walking around with a melanoma seems like a dangerously long time, but what do I know. How long should I wait for this to heal, assuming it may?
A doctor looked at some moles I had on my back years ago that I was worried about, and dismissed them at a glance. Most or many doctors i've seen want to get me on prozac or some other psychopharmaceutical, which I hesitate to do for various reasons.
But the main question here is this itchy pink spot I have. Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.
