I have been taking inderal propanorol for over twenty years
and a couple of days ago I ran out and started to get the
symptoms associated for not taking your blood pressure
medicine. This included rapid heart beat pulse and so forth.
I visited my local urgent care facility and saw a doctor
who in return told me that my blood pressure was 143 over
82 and proceeded to give me an ekg. I informed him that i
had recently received a physical examination several
months ago. He stated that the ekg was normal which I had
figured from the start. He also stated that I should not
be taking inderal because it is not for black people to take.
He suggested taking toprol and wrote a prescription for
it. Can someone enlighten me on this because I have never
had a doctor tell me this? Crying or Very sad Question

thanks,
nate

Extremely eHealthy
Nate,

as i'm from australia the same medicines here have different names to those you have there so I can't comment on them. I do know that there are a few (very few) medicines/illnesses that are different in & for different racial groups (there's one thing that's specific to people from the new hebrides) so the dr may be right.

But the blood pressure reading you mentioned is (as I understand it) not seen as that high. My suggestion is to check out a couple of search engines on the net (yahoo or google are good) & type in a search for say are there any contra indications to blacks taking whatever medicine you've been on, you may need to play around with the wording to get a complete answer. Another search question might be what are the differences or what are the uses of & then look under both medicines.

Good luck
