I've very recently started taking microgynon 30 and i've followed the instructions word for word. (taking the first pill on the first bleeding day of my period, taking the pills at the same time of day etc).
But I keep getting confused about when the contraception will be effective. It is effective immediately after taking the first pill which I took a few days ago, or is it effective after taking the first 21 pills??

Extremely eHealthy
When you start on the first day of your period, birth control pills are considered to be effective immediately. It is called a "day one start", because it is the first day of your period. Check out your info leaflet :)

Yes its effective from the first day you take your first pill when I first started I was worried about this because a condom split with my bf and id only been on the pill 3 days so I went to the doctors but they refused 2 give me the morning after pill because I was on the pill and it was effective!
So dont worry x

Lo again. I'm still on these pills and been taking them everyday, same time since I started and i'm near the end of the first pack. What are the risks of becoming pregnant on the 7 pill-free days even if I have sex on the last pill-taking-day? (i'm terrified of becoming pregnant btw)
