Hi all!

A week or so ago I posted about taking emergency contraception. I am very glad to say that I have my period... At first, though, it was very light. Does anyone know how to tell the difference between spotting and a light period? I'm fairly sure that I have enough flow to safely say i'm menstruating, but i'd just like to know.

Also, I have an appointment on monday to get birth control pills. I know that you're supposed to start taking your pills on the first day of your period (which would be today for me). Should I delay the appointment? Also, are you supposed to go into an appointment like that when you have your period? I have never been to a women's health center or had any form of a gyno, so I don't really know what to expect.

Thanks!

Ana

I'm not sure about the spotting/period, sorry.

You can start the pill on the sunday after your period starts, though you will have to use back-up contraceptives for a week or two... Your doc will let you know the exact amount of time.

If you're getting a pelvic exam, you probably don't want to have your period for it. But you may want to ask if they're going to do an exam at your appointment. Talk to the doctor.
