approx 4 weeks ago I started being sick.
At first it was maybe once a day (usually
first thing in the morning or late/during
the night). I had a small amount of pain
just prior to being sick but felt better
immediately afterwards.
After about a week my symptoms rapidly
became worse, I was vomiting up to five
times a day and had the most awful pains
high in my stomach~they felt almost like
labour contractions, the pain eventually
spread to between my shoulderblades and
under both ribs. I was in agony all
through the night and barely slept.
I went to the out of hours clinic and was
told I had a virus~the pains were because
I had pulled the muscles due to
vomiting.
Another week went by and I was still
vomiting a couple of times a day and felt
nauseas constantly, the pains were unlike
anything I have ever felt. I had
heartburn, eating anything (even dry toast
or rice krispies) made me vomit I couldn't
even drink water.
Back to the clinic again and I was given a
urine test to see if I had a urine
infection~i didn't~i'm not pregnant
either. My urine was very dark and
concentrated. There was no doctor
available so the nurse (who was very
concerned told me to rest and take
painkillers untill I could see my gp)
finally got an appointment with my gp...He
says he thinks my gallbladder is infected.
I have a slight fever and the are under
my right rib was very tender when he
pressed it (though I hadn't noticed
before...The pain seemed to be under both
ribs previously).
He has given me some anti-spasmodic
tablets and a course of antibiotics. He
is also arranging a scan.
Knowing the nhs in the uk this will take
weeks (if not months).
Does this sound like gallbladder
infection? If so should I be 'seen' by a
specialist and have a scan more quickly
than if this was just biliary colic?
Thanks! :)

Just to add (no edit facilty for guests
lol)
i have been looking it up on the internet
and all the opinions seem to be that
anyone with an infected gallbladder should
be hospitalised?
I haven't vomited today (first time in a
month)...I don't know if that's down to
the anti-spasmodics medication.
I was de-hydrated according to the nurse
at the drop in clinic but i've managed to
keep liquids and a little solids down
today.

From personal experience, it sounds like
it very well could be your gallbladder to
me. A gastroenterologist dr is the
specialist to see. Next step will be a
surgeon. If it's infected it needs to
come out, sooner then later. Leaving it
could lead to serious complications. If
you get any worse, please go to an er.
Take care

Yes it sounds like gallbladder to me too.
Once its been diagnosed with an
ultrasound scan, then you will probably be
referred to a surgeon.

I would also say gallbladder. What you've
written sounds the same as my "morning
from hell" exactly four weeks ago. I
could not hold anything down, not even
water. Then the next day temperature went
up and the pain was constant, but I wasn't
sick anymore. Now I am three weeks post
surgery, gallbladder was removed. I am
careful of what I eat, just in case, but
otherwise I am fine. If it is gallbladder
causing all this trouble, try to have it
removed as soon as possible, so you can
have a life back.

Thank you very much for your replies. :d
i'm feeling a bit better today, haven't
vomited... Though I have a dull ache
under my right rib and the area feels hot
to the touch.
I will certainly seek immediate help if my
condition worsens...In the mean time I
shall keep up with the antibiotics and
wait for a scan appointment.
