I have had acene problems sence the age of
12. I am now 27 and the only time in
there where I had clear skin was during an
eatting disorder I was suffering from from
age 15 to 17. During that time period,
my skin was as clear as it was when I was
2. Why?? I've been to see over ten
doctors during this time period and i've
been on everything on the market except
acutain (spelling??). Recently, I went
to see an endacrologist (spelling??) and
went for some more blood tests. The
concern being testoterone and ovary
problems. Everything came back fine.
The doctor said that my test.......
Levels, were in fact very very low. He
then suggested to try spanolactone
(spelling?) which I belive is the same as
isotritinion, even though i've been on it
before and it didn't do anything. He
wants to put me on a slightly higher does
of it however. My second question is
that I thought this medication helped to
lower test...... Levels which may be
causing adult acene, however, if my
test..... Levels are already really low
is this really needed??? Is it possible
that I could have too little test.... And
that is causing the acene?? What was
missing during my eating disorder that
allowed me to have clear skin that I don't
have now???? Also, I have a slight hair
growth problem on my face and once a month
I have what feels like an agression
attack. Is this a part of the same
problem??? Should I go on acutane as a
pilot?? Please help, I am exstreamly
fustrated!!! Thank you- kristin

Adult Acne Posted: 04-17-04 05:01am
I am also an adult w/acne and rosacea. It
started when I was around 12 too and now
i'm 30 and it's still going on. Years ago
I had gone to a dermatologist and they
treated it w/meds and twice a yr facials
to "extract". Well that became very
costly $400 a yr.
I went through yrs of trying lots of
things. Until recently a new family
physician I have been seeing put me on an
oral med, doxycycline 100mg, go ahead and
research it or ask your doctor, it has to
be used only for a few months at a time.
He also has me use a topical mixture
called "erythromycin-benzoyl peroxide gel"
on my face. Beware! The only thing I
don't like about the gel is that it has to
refrigerated all the time, so it becomes a
hassle when you travel or something. And
it can bleach clothing. But it's a small
price to have clearer skin! Both of these
things are covered by my insurance which
is great because the jar of gel cost $100,
I pay $10. So if you have insurance it's
even better.
So far my skin has been clearing up and I
am ecstatic! Ther were days I would cry
to my husband that I felt like I will
never know what it feels like to have
clear skin! I mean my skin is not
completely clear yet, but it feels a whole
lot better. The rosacea has also cleared
up, not more pink/red looking skin 99% of
the time.

Maisymar,
i have the same problem. I've had this
condition for 17 years, which is more than
half my life! I recently went to a
dermatologist (again) after having given
up on them for the past few years. They
gave me 100 mg doxycycline tablets to take
twice a day as well as some sulphur based
cream. I started taking pictures of my
progress and within a week, my face was
severely inflammed -- in fact it looked
god awful and I had pictures to prove it.
I thought it was just the reaction to the
doxycycline, but the dermatologist said
it's an anti-imflammatory so it shouldn't
happen. She suggested I quit using the
cream and that she would give me something
else.
I was wondering if your condition got
worse before it cleared up on doxycycline
or if you had any adverse reactions. Can
you share a little about your experience
with me.

I am 26 and still have acne myself. I
went on everything. I tried the sulfur
creams and they all made me break out
more. I went on differen, retin-a, etc.
I went on accutane as well and it helped
for about 6 months afterwards but then all
came back. The only thing I have found to
work (and I don't want to sound like a
commercial) is proactiv. Since I tried
everything else I figured it couldn't hurt
even though I hate infomercials. I
believe walgreens and walmart sell generic
versions of it that have the same
ingredients. I went off it for awhile
but I recently changed birth control and
my face went right back to where it was so
i've recently gone back on the proactiv
and my face is now clearing up nicely. I
wish I knew the reasoning of why it won't
go away as well. I still get people
saying "oh it'll go away on it's own"..
Well they've been saying that for 10
years!!

Everyone has always told me it would just
go away on it's own as well and...
Fifteen years later it didn't. I finally
found a program that really works though.
I've been on it for four months and the
results have been absolutely amazing. I
went on the doxycycline because I thought
it would get rid of the appearance
blackheads and give me fashion model skin.
But the program at
natural-acne-treatments.Com absolutely got
rid of my zits. It's the best money i've
ever spent and I wish al gore had invented
the internet 15 years earlier so I could
have had this information in high school!!

Diet Posted: 05-24-04 03:56am
Hi,
6 months ago I cut wheat and cheese out of
my diet and since then my skin has really
improved. This might be worth trying as I
assume when you had your eating disorder
you weren't eating very much. I know it
sounds pretty difficult, but I have
actually found it quite easy as there are
a lot of wheat free products in the shops.
Also I rarely get cravings for foods that
contain wheat or cheese, I guess they
aren't good for me so my body doesn't want
them. It takes a few months to start
working so you will have to be patient if
you try this, but for me it was really
worth the wait. It isn't a miracle cure
or anything, I still get some spots, but
they are small and heal quickly and my
skin all over my body feels much softer
and smoother.
I hope this helps

Miracle Acne Cure Posted: 05-28-04 08:17am
Hello kirsten,
you are not alone in your quest for smooth
skin, and i'm going to share what i've
tried with you. For starters it works.
If you are spending loads of cash on
medication, anti acne soaps and creams,
stop now! The miracle cure to good skin
lies in what you eat and what you eat
alone.
It is important that starting from now you
stop eating sugar, white grains and flours
(except basmati rice), potatoes cooked in
any form (except sweet potatoes), animal
milk and milk products, animal fats, salt
and over cooked food or processed foods.
Start spending your money on vegetables
and lots of it. I can almost swear that
if you eat a complete vegetable/ salad
meal with greens especially baby spinach
(without breads and such or meats) either
at lunch or dinner, you'll be trully
amazed at how clear your skin will become
in a short while. The only other thing to
help you along is a time realease vitamin
and mineral tablet.
Have fruits in moderation, walk a little
bit more and drink water before or after
every meal. Lastly if you're on the pill
or any hormone based contraceptive, stop
using it now. It will bring on worse
problems for you in the future such as
cysts, lumps, abnormal cells when you have
a pap smear etc.
All the best and good heatlh to you.

Howdy,
I'm 19 and I dealt with Acne since I was
about 9. Yeah 9. It wasn't until I was
in 11th grade that my parents did anything
about it. I used acneutain, well it was
the secdon thing that they gave me. It
worked great. It totally dryed out my
skin, my lips were the worst. It was
worth it. I still do have problems every
now and then. My brother is the same.
But its no where near as bad as it was
before acneutain. Now you might have to
go though a second treatment. The doc
will tell you that. At least mine did.
It really helped me.

It is simply not true that what you eat
alone, can be a reason for acne. Some acne
is hereditary.
Many people, myself included eat healthy
and my acne still persisted until I tryed
proavtive again for the second time.
Doxicycline also worked for me. It made me
feel sick though, so I had to stop taking
it. I recently found out that mik,
however, does have some hormones in it
that can cause some people to have acne
flare ups!

I'm in my 50's. I have had acne since I
was 13. The only times it was really
under control were when I was on
tetracycline, Cleocin T, or birth control
pills. Just today, I am getting a very
deep pimple on my chin.
I guess on the plus side, people usually
think in my 30s.
