I gave birth in dec04 and got back on the shot in july05 in a 5 month period, I have went from 140 lbs.. To 180 lbs.., a size 9 to a 15 :( all due to the side effects of the depo shot!! I'm due for a shot in jan06, but I refuse to gain anymore weight. Any suggestions on a birth control that has no weight gain side effects and one that I will not have to remember to take everyday? And does anyone know how long it will take for my appetite to go down. I look pregnant, every one that knows me ask me if I am and say I look about 7 months. I would never recommend this shot to anyone, it has made me gain weight so rapidly that I have stretch marks that is not even from being pregnant and because of my increased appetite I eat so much, that my body looks un even to where I have a stomach that makes me look 7 months pregnant!! Please help~!

Yeah, my neighbor was on depo for 3 years, she blew up like a balloon, and now she got off of it, and she gained even more weight (then again, 3 years of no period screws up your system). Anyways, I use nuvaring. It's a silicon ring that you keep in the vagina for 3 weeks, then you remove it for 1 week (in which you'll get your period), then put in a new one and start over. I really like it, especially since I only think about it twice a month, when I put take it out and when I put it in, it even comes with stickers to stick on your calendar. The only downside is the price. With insurance, the pharmacy was going to charge me $30 for one month (most ppl I know who are on the pill pay like $12), but I found out that the university pharmacy sells it to univ. Students for $12.
If you check out the website you can find more info. It also has a lot less hormones than any of the pills.

I gained weight on depo as well...30 pounds in 18 months. I said enough is enough! There are other things out there that won't do that to your body! As soon as I went off the shot, I lost all the weight in like 2-3 months. I waited 3 months, and then went on the pill. I never had any weight problems being on the pill until this year, which is about 6 years later (from going off depo). All of a sudden my body started rejecting artificial hormones!!! My advice to you would be go on a low-dose pill. It'll probably cause the least weight gain. Every woman is different though...You never know how different forms of bc are going to affect you compared to other women!
Good luck!
