I don't think so.

(btw, aids and hiv are completely different; you don't have to have hiv to have aids.)

no, the consistency of your spit is not a sign.

There is very little that is a sign of hiv. Some people experience some flu or cold like symptoms (temperature, chills, scratchy throat, etc) as their body fights the virus at first but not everyone experiences the same thing. A blood or an oral swab hiv test can tell you if you are infected or not. Unless you get tested, you may not know you have it for quite some time.

Aids is a medical term which describes a variety of illnesses in which your t-cell (the cells in your immune system that fight off infections and diseases) count falls below (i believe but would have to check) 200. Before you are diagnosed with aids, you are hiv . Hiv is a virus that invades t-cells, replicates, and then breaks down the t-cells one by one. This breaks down the hiv peron's immune system slowly and many people don't know that they are hiv until a strange disease or illness is diagnosed. It can take many years to discover that you are hiv . Everyone should be tested regularly for hiv because the sooner it is discovered, the sooner the person can go on medications to help manage their illness and live longer.

The world health organization listed the following stages of hiv to aids:
stage i: hiv disease is asymptomatic and not categorized as aids

stage ii: include minor mucocutaneous manifestations and recurrent upper respiratory tract infections

stage iii: includes unexplained chronic diarrhea for longer than a month, severe bacterial infections and pulmonary tuberculosis or

stage iv: includes toxoplasmosis of the brain, candidiasis of the esophagus, trachea, bronchi or lungs and kaposi's sarcoma; these diseases are used as indicators of aids.

Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia, tuberculosis, esophagitis, unexplained chronic diarrhea, toxoplasmosis, progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy, and kaposi's sarcoma (a rare form of cancer) are all used to diagnose someone with aids as is a t-cell count of less than 200. Once someone is diagnosed with aids, it stays with them even if they become healthy again and their t-cell count goes above 200. this does not mean that that person is going to die or that further treatment is not going to help. It's just a label for doctor's to be able to adequately treat patients.

Most people with all of the medication available today are able to live much, much longer than ever before and get sick a lot less. With hiv and aids, your lifestyle is the most important predictor of whether or not you will live a long life. If you drink, do drugs (such as, but not limited to, cocain, heroin, and speed), don't get enough rest, don't eat nutritiously, and don't exersize, your body is going to succumb to the infection faster than someone who takes care of themself. Take care of yourself and you'll live.

Everyone should get tested regularly even if you're in a serious, monogamous relationship because everyone is at risk for contracting hiv (and other diseases) even if they do not have sex with other people. Get tested, follow your doctor's advice, be safe, and take care of yourself.
Peace,
jenn

Below 200 per mm3 is correct.

if you mean aids that occurs as a result of hiv then yes, but otherwise, like I said before, you don't have to have hiv to be labeled an aids patient.

Just out of curiosity, what type of aids is not caused by hiv other than psychosomatic immune deficiency?

Whoa Whoa Whoa
Hold on there, let me just state this simply -

1 only hiv leads to aids, nothing else
2 you will not get aids if you do not have hiv - any other immunodeficiency problem cannot be called aids
3 aids is a state of being, brought on by the lack of an immune system, which in turn has been brought on by hiv (a virus)

i hope this is clear.

Plus
And as a further point, aids stands for aquired immune deficiency syndrome. Aqcuired. Meaning the body not cause the immune deficiency itself. It is a specific type of illness, not a 'label' that doctors use for any patient with an immune defiecieny - aids is only for the ones who are hiv with sub-200 t-cell count. This is fact, i'm afraid. Just look it up.

aids can be led to by other immune deficiency problems, although it is less common. Get your story straight. Aids stands for: acquired immune deficiency syndrome, nothing about hiv there... People just associate it as being the same thing, because they don't hear about people getting it other ways other than hiv.

Well...
From wikipedia -

acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome (or acronym aids or aids), is a collection of symptoms and infections resulting from the specific damage to the immune system caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (hiv).[1] aids is a condition that results from the latter stages of advanced hiv infection in humans, thereby leaving compromised indivduals prone to opportunistic infections and tumors. Although treatments for both aids and hiv exist to slow the virus' progression in a human patient, there is no known cure.

From medical journal -

aids is an infectious disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus (hiv-1, hiv-2), a retrovirus that causes immune system failure and debilitation. Hiv is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected person.
