Q: Extreme Fatigue

I'm desperate for some advice! I suffer from severe/extreme fatigue and can't seem to determine the cause. I've done the sleep study (no sleep apnea), i've had my thyroid checked (normal), i've had a complete physical (everything "normal") and yet I have struggled with fatigue for about 20 yrs!!! It has gotten worse over the years - I have trouble waking myself up (similar to sleep paralysis, but no hallucinations), if i'm feeling tired but continue to push myself, it takes me 1-2 days of constant rest to get back to a "functioning" level of energy, and i've recently had dreams that I am so tired that if I let myself go into as deep of a sleep as I feel I want to that I won't be able to wake up again. I usually wake up from those dreams feeling like dead weight/drugged. Whether I sleep 6 hrs a night or 12 hrs a night, I still feel exhausted......

me too
I can't offer you much advice, however I can seriously relate. I too have been having what I call "dropping out' episodes for 3 years now. I feel drugged when I am having a drop out, it can last 24 hours or 2 hours the range is inconsistant. I sometimes feel better after eating but theres no gurantee. Recently a Chiropractor suggested epilepsy to me, I am going to look further into this??? So maybe a neurologist is a path you and I could take?

could you have narcolepsy?
I have long experienced the same problem. I periodically have to sleep for 36 hours straight, particularly if i have been pushing myself through the extreme fatigue. I used to just want to lie down on the floor in the grocery store; now my husband does the shopping. The worst fatigue hit when 2 friends from college whom I had not seen for MANY years came to visit. They arrived on Thursday night and left Tuesday morning. On Saturday night I went to bed and did not awaken except for bathroom breaks until Monday morning. What a rotten host!
I have since been diagnosed with Narcolepsy which has helped understand this but has not changed the fatigue significantly.
