I Have Pcos And Long Periods
I'm 20 years old, and recently I was diagnosed with pcos (poly cystic ovarian syndrome). I initally went to the doctor, because I went three years without a natural period. After several ultrasounds and tests, I was diagnosed and treated with (believe it or not) glucophage (metformin)-which is actually a diabetic medication. The doctor gave me a horomone to make me begin periods, but i've been struggling every since. I am on my period for the third (going on the fourth) month now. I've had ultrasounds, numerous blood tests, and i've visited several doctors, but they all say I am fine. I don't know about them, but i'm so tired of being on my period. If anyone knows what else I should try, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, and I hope the best to all!

Pcos
I have pcos also. Mine is secondary to my hypothyroidism. They put me on glucophage also to help with the side effects. I rarely have periods though. I'm on high doses of estrogen at the moment because I started massively bleeding several weeks ago and my estrogen levels were nothing. My testosterone levels were elevated though. The glucophage seems to help with the excess hair stuff. She also told me to be careful because they use glucophage as a fertility drug to help with ovulation. Women with pcos need to be careful with diet and weight because of the higher risk of developing insulin resistance..Which in turn travels into diabetes.

Pcos Update
Well, since my last posting, a lot has changed. I saw a specialist, and he put me on birth control (yasmin). I've been doing great. I've had regular periods, weight loss, and i've had a breakthrough. You see, I have suffered from migraines for several years, but I did not know they were horomonal. I uesd to have at least one headache a week, lasting anywhere from one day-to three or four days. On the birth control, I don't have a single headache, unless i'm on my "skip" days. Because of this wonderful finding, my doctor lets me skip my period, and choose when I want to have it, as long as I have it once every three months (for safety against cancer). I am headache-free, healthier, and much much happier. Who knew one little pill everyday could change so much?!?
