Q: How Soon Is Bc Effective

The packet on the bc says to use a back up method for the first seven days, and when you first start the pack if taken within 5 days of your period you are covered. Just wondering if I should wait a full cycle for bc to be effective, or I can assume it is working after seven.

Also what happens in the case that you get your period during active pills? Are you supposed to take continue taking active and inactive until you finish the pack?

Yes continue taking pills even if you bleed. The pills are effective immediately if you start them on your period, but waiting the full 7 days is good.(for the sake of being careful) many women spot and bleed during their pills, just keep taking them. Call your doc if the bleeding is bothersome, they can give you a new kind of pill.

Bleeding
I am on my 3rd month of taking birth control pills (orthro-novum). I have been experiencing bleeding for 7 days now. It starts in the evening then stops by morning. I missed a day but took the pill the next day to make up for it, then 2 days later is when I started bleeding. I am not sure what is going on and just want to rule out the possiablity of pregnancy. I have been under some stress lately and I am also helping a friend move for a week now, lifting and painting, so I didn't know if that would have anything to do with it. I am technically not suppose to start my period for another 10 days.
