Q: Hysterectomy - Scared to Death

Hello,

i am scheduled to have a hysterectomy on the 29th of this month. My doc said that he would do a bikini cut incision. I was told that you can do a vaginal hysterectomy also. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to go or has anyone had a vaginal hysterectomy before? What's the difference between the two? Thanks, I hope to hear from anyone with some advice.

Dont Be Scared
Hi
just read your post, I had a total abdominal hysterectomy last november, I am 35 years old and I was frightened to death by the thought of it, so I know how you are feeling, I was cut as I couldnt have a vaginal hyster as I had my ovaries taken along with everything else, and I was told that because I was having everything taken away I had to have abdominal surgery, vaginal surgery was not an option so maybe this is why you have to be cut on the bikini line too?
I am fully recovered now 12 months later and have been on hrt evoral50 patches since day 3 of my surgery and I feel so much better.
But a little advice I must give you.........After your operation do not run before you can walk, take things steady and your recovery will not take too long
i wish you all the best and if I can help you with any info then please dont hesitate to contact me
take care
rosie

I am scheduled for march 2004. I am having a vaginal hyst. Since they are not taking my ovaries. However, I have major repair to be done since I have had prolapse for the past 20 years. I am 49. I have come to terms and feel good about my decision, but my husband does not want me to do it.

Did you have a support team or person?

6 Weeks After Hysterectomy - I Feel Great
Hello,

well I had my hyst on the 29th of december. Everything went well and so far I have not had any problems. I get hot flashes and some night sweats but it's nothing that I can't handle. Also, I am not on any hormone medication at all. My doctor thought that I would come running to him for some meds but I feel that I can do it without being placed on the hormone pill. So far so good.

I'm still kind of tender in that area but other than that I feel great. No complications or problems. If anyone have a question, please don't hesitate to write me. Laughing

thanks
