Q: Chronic Lower Back Ache - Help

I developed this problem 2-years ago. It started out like the begining of stomach flu, an uncomfortable feeling low down in the center of the body, like a need to go the bathroom. Within a few months this worsened to become an ache in the center of the lower back, immediately above the buttocks. It is worse at night and when sitting for any length of time - driving for example or using a pc. Activity helps at the time, but often I suffer for it later.

1-year ago I had nerve block injections. They did not help - the ache was much worse for 2-months after before settling back at where it was before the precedure. Bone scan, blood total count, mri (2) and xrays have shown no problem. Pysiotherapy, osterpathy and a neurologist could find no cause.

I am beginning to think that my ache is not from the spine at all, but is referred from somewhere else - the muscles in the buttocks for example.

Three years ago I had prostrate surgery (psa zero since). I thought that the ache might be referred from there. The surgeon had a blood test and xray done that proved negative. There is no correllation between bathroom needs and ache/no ache.

Question: has anyone had this problem? If so, please explain your experience. What advice can anyone give that will rid my body of this debilatating condition?

Sbj,

have you ever had an mri or cat scan, sounds like disc problems to me. A normal x-ray doesn't show soft tissue damage, so naturally they don't reveal disc problems. Good luck to you.

Lower Back Ache
Thanks for the input. I did have an mri. The test did not show up any problem. I would have not thought it possible with all the technology, specialists, clinics and so forth, to have such a painful condition that was undiagnosable.

Sbj Pain
Sbj,

i have been having lower chronic back pain for the last 4 months. Recently i've noticed a nauseating feeling in my stomach that seems to be aggravated whenever I do something that puts pressure on my back. Now I have this mixture of lower back pain and stomach weakness/nausea. Let me know if your symptoms are similar.
