Q: False Negative-blood Test

Has anybody ever taken a hpt and gotten a negative...And also gotten a blood test and gotten a negative, when you were really pregnant? I'm just curious, I thought I saw someone post something about getting a negative back from the blood test, but in the end she turned out preggo...I just want a solid answer to all of this, no more worrying! If I am, i'll deal with it the best I can, but at least i'll have an answer! Also, for those of you who went to a clinic to get the blood test, do they do anything else except for that? I heard they make you pee in a cup also...Do you get the results back that day? I hate not knowing these things! Crying or Very sad

Well I know a blood test can never be wrong. Its either yes or no. The pee tests can be wrong though...

You sure about that? I could have sworn a girl posted her story and in it she had said something about the blood test came out negative the first time and she still hadnt gotten her period so she went back to get another one and it came out postive. If your hcg levels arent high enough I don't think a blood test would still pick it up do u?

At the amount of time you would be pregnant right now vanessa then the blood test would definitely be accurate. Blood tests are usually false if you take them before your next period is due, because of sometimes very low hcg levels!

I had took a blood test and the doctor told me it came back negative but it was really positive. This was the doctors error though

I got my urine test results back in like 10 minutes, they just use a pregnancy test....And I got my blood test results back in 30 minutes, but I went to the big doctors office, where they have the lab inside, so it was faster, but most doctors it takes a little while longer for the blood test....My urine test came back negative at the doctor and I said I know im pregnant and the doctor said that most hpt's are more reliable than the doctors urine test.So they gave me a blood test..And, once I got home, I got a phone call that ill never forget.."jordan, your blood test results are in, they are positive, congradulations!"...And here I am today..

I think it just happened to me. Went to the ER early this AM and it took 5 mins to get the blood back.
. A bit too quick for me. I have all the pregnancy symptoms and he said " I don't know what's wrong with you, maybe some infection somewhere, here's an antibiotic." when I asked him why the late period( way over a week almost 2 weeks) and nausea/vomiting with food cravings and sensitvity to smells he said " I dunno" The nurse came in when it was dicharge time and said " Honey, retest in a couple of weeks if your period still hasn't come, you know blood tests aren't 100% accurate, in my opinion it was done way too fast, also you may produce hCG alot slower than some other pregnant women" Also a hpt had a faint positive but the DR said he didn't trust any hpts at all. She basically lifted me spirits as my husband and I are TTC.

That is a little weird for the blood test to be back in 5 minutes! Well, good luck in a couple of weeks when you go back. Smile

Blood tests take longer than 5 minutes. Urine tests are 5 minutes, blood tests are a few days.

The blood test was done at the ER so they are faster. They didn't do a urine test on me, just tested my urine for bacteria and I was told it was clean. I just think they didn't test it correctly or at all. I also think what the discharge nurse said about hCG being too low to detect may be correct.

ok #1 blood tests DO take longer then 5 minutes...even in the er

#2 blood tests are accurate because they measure even the smallest amount of anything in your blood (except of course if the lab tech or doc screws something up, that i beleive)

#3 it shouldnt take a week to get a hcg on blood back, it chould take a couple days tops even if there is no lab in your doctors facility, its not difficult they stain the slide and look at it no growing no anything

#4 urine tests are more reliable at a docs because they know exactly how to do it to get the most accurate results
