Q: Severe Headaches -- Only Symptom?

I was testing by an allergy doctor after suffering from terrible sinus headaches & was found to be allergic to just about everything indoors & outdoors. I sneeze occassionally & have to blow my nose, but really the headaches are my only symptom. Is that unusual??? Anyone else have only headaches???

I've been doing allergy injections for 3 years but don't know if they're really helping. This summer has been hell....I've been in a lot of pain for 2 weeks. My allergy doctor is now having me try allegra. There are so many allergy medications out there but they list a lot of symptoms that I don't even have....I haven't seen any that really say they relieve sinus headache. Anyone have any medication recommendations???

I appreciate any advise....The pain is driving me crazy.

How stressful is your every-day life, 'cause that can trigger or magnify allergies and headaches. If that is the case, an anti-depressant may do the trick.

Good luck my friend!

I'm sorry, I have terrible allergies with hives and swelling but have never had the headaches. I am curious to what kind of shot you've had? I have never been able to find a cure. About 2 weeks ago I was given a kenalog shot and it did absolutely nothing. Tylenol severe allergy is the only over the counter drug that has helped. Best wishes.

Here Is Your Cure
Homeopathy has very good medicines to cure sinusitis. Sinusitis is nothing but the inflamation in the empty spaces in the skull called as sinuses in which the nasal catarrh on recurrent occurence tends to get collected. This mucus causes heaviness, pressure and pain in the head. Homeopathy has medicines to relieve nasal catarrh which you mean by sneezes, running nose and nasal blockage and flush out the mucus in the sinuses thereby relieving your recurrent headache. More details would be required for a proper prescription.

Decongestants Are For Sinus Headaches.
Allegra-d, zyrtec-d, claritin-d: what do they have in common? Pseudoephedrine, brand name sudafed. This is a decongestant that relieves sinus headaches and pressure. The antihistamine is what makes the three different. Allegra is fexofenadine, which is a newer antihistamine that is considered nondrowsy, while zyrtec and claritin (certirizine and loratadine, respectively) are considered "drowsy" like benadryl (diphenhydramine). Zyrtec and claritin shouldn't make you drowsy, but they can. Anywho, the antihistamine is what helps the sneezing, itchy nose/eyes, runny nose, etc. The decongestant helps the sinuses clear, which will help the headaches. If you have not taken a medication that specifies the d, you havent taken one for your symptoms. I've been on allegra-d for about 18 months and have only had one sinus infection since starting it. Before I had several a year.

After having 16 sinus surgeries, I know what "pain" you're talking about!! It's awful. However, my suggestion is always... Make sure it's your sinus' that are hurting. Go to an ent and get a ct scan to see if you have any visible problems. I have recently done some research on tmj syndrome. It has a lot of the same symptoms as that of a sinus headache. You may need to see an oral surgeon to get that diagnosed. In the mean time..... Massage therapy will help regardless of what the problem is. Find a massage therapist that is certified in tmj massage and/or cranial sacral work. If you have one already and they aren't certified in these things just tell them the symptoms that you are having and they should be able to help in other ways! It will help your sinus' to drain (if they need to) and loosen muscles in the neck and shoulders that could be causing a tension headache. Also, you should see a chiropractor. They will be able to adjust your sinus' very easily and painlessly with a small tool. If you're more of a "pill pusher".. Excedrine migraine helps me with my chronic sinus disease and the horrible headaches that go along with it. Another headache otc cure that i've found is called "goody's". It's little packets of powder (that have a really horrible taste!) that you mix with a liquid like juice, soda or water and drink. My suggestion? Shoot it like tequila! It's not pleasant to sip. I like it cause it's works really really fast!!
All of these things help me!! Let us know if anything works! Good luck

Clean the Air
You can't control the outside air quality, but you can keep the air indoors cleaner. First of all get rid of your upright or canister vacuum. No matter what they claim they pollute the air every time you turn them on. Central vacuums have been clinically proven to reduce allergy symptoms.

I have a new technology central vacuum that has made a big difference in my home. It is connected to the drain so I can clean wet spills and mop all my hard floors and everything - 100% - is either flushed down the drain or vented outside. You don't ever need to change filters or be exposed to any of the dust again.

It has made a big difference in allergies and illness in our home. Hope it helps.

headaches only at home
I work 4 days a week and am home for 3. Almost every week I have a terrible migraine on one of my days off. It usually starts in mid-afternoon. I never get these at work. Is there something in my environment causing these. We have two cats.

For severe headaches try symtec nasal spray and if that doesn't relieve all of the symptoms an ibuprofen will releive the inflamation. I had this due to mold allergy and I found that this helped.
