I did not do it with my son as my hospital did not offer it and it would have been too expensive for me to do it at the time. Ti is a great idea if you have the funds. I'm not sure which is the best to use though. Good luck, I hope your cousin will be ok too.

when I was pregnant with my 2nd son I knew that I was going to bank my baby’s cord blood because my first son has aml. It was not difficult for me to decide whether I was going to bank, but what company I was going to use. After doing a lot of online research I decided to bank with cbr.

As a public service they have a program called dtp, designated transplant program. Cbr banked it for free! No charge! Dtp is a program that covers the cost of banking and storage in the case that there is an immediate need. This is for a family member diagnosed with a life-threatening disease treated by stem cells. This is regardless of your financial situation, but if you meet a certain medical criteria. Which I think you do!

I have did reserch on this and I am donating my sons cord blood, from what I have learned you can not donate to a private bank . Private banks are for familys who want to pay for the blood to be saved for them, you would have to donate to a public bank I will include who I am using. However if you are going to donate to your family then you should talk to your doctor and see if they can do it and see if there would be a charge for it, you family may have t pay for a private band to hold the cord blood until she can use it, and that is alot of money, I wanted to save mine for my son just in case, but we cant afford it, so I would rather save the life of another child if possible and pray that my son would never need it. And if he does maybe god will send him an angel.

Hi everyone...I am looking into this too. I found that a bank in pa, corcell, has a program that takes cord blood, with no charge, but it is only if a child has an illness and is for sibling (brother/sister use) only.

I used parentsguidecordblood.Com to look at all of the companies out there, corcell is closer to us (we live in south jersey) and we liked their website.

I want to donate really bad, but it cost $500 to donate. DONATE. Geeze. And my insurance doesn't cover any of the cost. So, the cord's going in the trash. What a waste.
