I had a lumpectomy in early october. 5 days after my incision was leaking. 4 days after that I went to the surgeon . He told me nothing wrong. To make a long story short, to this day I have drain holes opening daily. I have been diagnosed with staph gram negative, and have been on antibiotics since october 17th. 7 different flavours to be exact. No one seems to want to step in and provide the proper care. Any ontarians out there who knows a doctor who specializes in patients(ha) I need help. This is a mess and I am getting sicker by the day. I can't get anyone else to look at me and I went to the emerg of another hospital and they said they would't touch me without a referral from the original surgeon. The original surgeon has seen me three times. First time told me I sqaushed my breast and that is why it is leaking, the second time he told me to take advil and the last time he said if you are waiting for an apology you won't get one. Please someone out there. I need some advice.

So you have been told you have a staph infection.
The problem with staph is that is highly resistent to broadbased antibiotics. Your doctor may need to change your antibiotics to a specific ab that will target the particular organism. Infections in surgical wounds occur oftern expecially in a hospital environment where all the bacteria like to hang out. Is there pain at the site? Swelling? Have you had any systemic symtoms like feeling generally unwell? Fever?
I would def go and see another doctor as from your post it seems he does not want to take responsability for your infection. The infection wether it was caused during your surgery or post surgery needs to be treated appropriatly. Mmmmm I dont see how an anti-inflamatory would help you fight off your infection (relieve your swelling yes).....Second opinion is def warrented.

My husband just said--you might wanna talk to a lawyer. If they are not taking you seriously--this is very serious---right??? And you have to make sure this heals up all the way. Surgeon, new .Dr or whatever but it has to be healed all the way. And the infection completely gone. If it takes 10 different antibiotics. Like previous poster says--they can test and see what kind of antibiotic works for this particular infection. So it can be cleared up efficiently. Keep at them, and like my husband says--if they dont listen get a lawyer that they will listen too.

Good luck--i will pray for you.

I know a man who has had a staph infection for a little more than a week. He was sent home from the hospital with an iv in his arm and instructions on how to take care of his wound and how to keep his iv clean in between changings. He has not been following the specific directions given to him by doctors and nurses (who are coming out to his house every three days to change the iv needle). My question is what are the possible outcomes if this man continues to disobey doctors orders and continues to let himself be exposed to more infections? And how safe is it to do an iv at home?

why does he have an iv? Is it to deliever iv antibiotics. Why is this medication been given intravenously over the oral form? The possibly outcomes include further infection, wether that be his vein (phlebitis), the surrounding tissue or a systemic infection. Iv meds are given when we need to see more concentrated and effective dose given over a short ammount of time. If you give me a few more details I can help you further

Oh and iv's need to be looked after by a nurse or doctor for the simple reason of preventing infection as ivs are invasive and break the skin. Infections can become systemic or even enter the bloodstream (speticeamia) but it sounds like hes being taken care off.

possible staph?
My dad has recently been admitted to hospital with some form of infection, the doctors don't seem to be able to figure out whats wrong.
Some of his symptoms and his day to day life seem to match the symptoms of staph especially his activities the day he started to get sick.
He is a insulin dependent diabetic with self administered bi-daily injections, and on the day he started to get sick he was working in a gyms wet room working on repairs whilst the wet room was still in use the repairs took several hours and in all that time he was in all the steam and wet which if it is staph would most likely be the cause of infection due to the broken skin at his injection site's.
His symptoms are vomiting, ache's and a slight fever. Also before the vomiting set in fully there were a few "loose" movements but since he's not been able to keep even water down there is nothing to be passed so I don't know if it is diarrhea or not.

Can anyone give me suggestions as to whether it may be staph and how to put my theory across to a doctor or any suggestions as to what it might be instead? They have also taken bloods twice that I know of and whatever they've tested for came back negative.
