For the past week or so, I have been having a constant tightness under my left lower rib. Earlier this afternoon, I had a very sharp pain, which lasted about 30 seconds. I haven't noticed anyother visible symptom.

Any suggestions or adivce are very much appreciated.

No other noticable symptoms????
No shortness of breath, no dizzyness, lump in the throat etc?

I would see a doctor if you haven't already to rule out any medicat conditions

Shelleyp,

i have had the same thing for several years. I would recommend looking at the thread of information under the topic in this forum called something like stomach/gastrointestinal problems or something like that. You will be shocked at how many people have the same exact symptoms.

Doctors Says...
Hello,

well I too have been suffering from this pain... After seeing several doctors and getting no real answers, I finally found someone who gave me an explanation.

She said it's a condition called "costochondritis"

basically it's an inflammation of the cartilage of one or more ribs, commonly the left side and occurs around the 2nd or 3rd rib. The pain is often intensified by movements that change the poistion of the ribs such as, bending over, coughing or sneezing.

The best treatment is ibuprofen for the pain, and also because it's an anti inflammatory.

This diagnosis has helped me... Just wanted to pass the message along.

Pain Under Left Rib
I am starting to to get concerned. A few years ago I started feeling a dull pain under my left rib -- usually after eating. I lost some weight while training for a marathon (15 pounds or so) and the dull pain went away. Now, I put those 15 lbs back on and the pain came back and is starting to get worse. Feels like the dull pain is starting to turn into more of a sharp pain. Also, I am starting to feel the pain all of the time rather than just after eating. Anyone have any imput? Help? Thinking about seeing my doctor.
