I know this doesn't help much, but side effects are different for everyone. You can't tell if a pill is good for you until you try it. But there are so many different pills. If you try one you don't like, there are plenty more, and chances are you'll find the right one. You'll probably want to try a lower-dose pill. Many people can take those and not gain any weight. Some people even lose weight on the pill. I would stay away from the injections because they remain in your body for three months. If you can't tolerate the side effects of the pill, you can just stop taking it, but you're stuck with the injection until it wears off. Ortho tri cyclen and ortho lo are good options if you're worried about weight gain. I've heard a lot of people say they didn't gain any weight on them. You may also want to consider nuva ring. I haven't used it, so I can't personally tell you much about it, but it has a lower dose of hormones. But again, everyone is different, so i've heard from people who love it and people who hate it.

Sorry I can't give you better advice. It's just that there are so many different types of pills and people have many different types of reactions to them. As far as the weight gain, don't worry too much about it. The newer pills that we have available these days are much less likely to cause weight gain than the higher-dose pills of the past.

I personally think that it depends on your attitude. If you're someone who normally eats what is considered "junk" food or a lot of fast food loaded with preservatives, then yes, you're likely to gain weight. I know quite a few women who are on the pill and have diets high in fruits, veggies, and poultry that is mainly home-cooked, and they drink plenty of water and their bodies don't change. My body hasn't changed as a result of nuvaring, and I too eat a lot of fruit, I abstain from cow and pork meat and I drink plenty of water and I try to incorporate at least a little bit of exercise (like not focusing on parking too close to a building entrance, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking certain distances instead of driving, etc). I also try to get at least a good hour of exercise walking in every week.
So basically, you can take a bc and be conscious of your diet. I have one friend who was already chubby, she eats a lot of chips, fast food, cakes, etc, drinking minimal water, and she blew up like a balloon.
But yeah, talk to your gyn about lower dose pills, apparently yasmin is a very low dose pill. Nuvaring is also great because of the minimal hormones (it has less than half of the hormones that the pill has).

Not Always
When I started to take the pill I did not gain any weight at all. I am taking the meliane pill, a very light one. As the person before me said, everyone is different, but most of my friends did not gain weight after starting with the pill. Just one, but she did not take the light pills as the other ones.

In my openion yes. I was super skinny untill I went on the pill. I didn't get really fat but I gained weight. Anything with hormones can make you gain weight like depo or the pill or the patch. I don't think it will make you gain weight like crazy but it could make you gain a good 10lbs. Thats why i'm on the copper iud because it has no hormones.

I'm of the ones who loses weight on the pill. I got to say that I love this side effect of the pill, keeps me in shape :-) . I am on orthotryciclen the normal one not the low dose. But that's true people will have different side effects on the different pills so it's a matter of trying yourself and see which one fits for you.
