Q: Condom And General Contraceptive Question

My husband doesn't like using condoms. He says it cuts his circulation off, and he never comes when wearing one (although he is able to stay hard). After sex with a condom he isn't interested again for weeks-- he says it takes that long for his penis to recover. I went off birth control because it screwed up my hormones. I was sick feeling all the time and had no libido. I am really glad I went off it, but now that my husband won't use condoms, I don't know what to do. The other problem is that my vaginal area is very sensitive to things like spermicide and I have terrible burning. I have to use all natural lubes-- ky doesn't even work for me. So, here we are... No sex life and no hope that we'll every have one! Any ideas?

Have you tried different brands? I've heard some guys complain that they can't wear certain brands such as lifstyles, claiming that they're too small. Have you considered other bcs (different brands of the pill, nuvaring, patch, iud, depo-prevera etc.)? That's the best I could recommend. Try looking up different methods, there are sooo many options.

I'm In Same Predicament
I am currently in the same predicament as you! How weird! I recently went off hormones cuz of major side effects. My husband hates using condoms, and I can't use spermicides cuz of the burning...Soooooo, I am going to be getting an iud. They are supposedly as effective as getting your tubes tied, and they last 10 years, so that sounds good to me! You outta check into it. Probably would be your best option.

Oh, by the way, I am getting the paragard iud, which has no hormones. Do not get the mirena! Way too many side effects (from what i've heard!)

Thanks for the advice, but I plan to get pregnant in less than 10 years... Any ideas about that? I've only been married a year and a half, and we are both in grad school, so i'd say in 4 years or less we'll be wanting to start a family. I guess I need something without side effects that will be more temporary.

Well, you can get an iud removed any time you want to...You don't have to keep it in for 10 years if you don't want to. It's just good for up to 10 years.
But, some other forms of non-hormonal birth control you might consider are diaphrams or cervical caps...Not really sure how they work, but i've heard of them...Hope this helps!

Extremely eHealthy
The iud is excellent and hormone free! Well, paragard is hormone free anway... Some docs are hesitant to give them to women who had not had children, but new fda research shows that the risk of expulsion is not significantly greater in women who have not had children. Planned parenthood usually offers iud's to women, regardless of if they have given birth or not. So they can be a good resource if and iud interests you, but your doc won't do it. They can be taken out any time, and are as effective as sterilization....Except you can have it taken out any time you want.

Any reccommendations for a new brand of the pill given the fact that the low estrogen ones made me sick?

Hmm well what one were you on? I was on a couple, and one that really works for me is yasmin.

Hmm, I will look into yasmin. I was on lo estrin, which I think was the generic for something more well known. I just don't know what it was. Thanks for the advice.

I too have been in this situation for a while now. My husband and I jsut use the "pull out" method. Not really an effective way, I know. But taking a risk is a lot better than not having sex! :) we too are both in college and want to wait a while to have a family! I tried two different types of pills, a low dose and a normal dose and both did the same thing to me, so apparently my body just doesn't agree with them. Also, have you tried the vcf foam? I was too sensitive for it, I am really prone to infections and that sort of thing. But it may be something you want to try if you haven't already.

natural way!!
There are these things cause cycle beads. Its a round band of colored beads. The bright red one is the first day you start your period. It had a band around it and every day you have your period you move the band. Once you get to the white one you dont have intercourse or use a condom. THen it will go back to red beads after your ovulating is over and the higher risk of getting preg. The ideal is to just have unprotected sex on the red ones and protected sex on white.......its that easy!
