Q: Migraines And Medicines

I have chronic migraines with aura..The aura problems never go away, and the migraines with pain happen daily but not persistently all day long. I tried cyproheptadine and was curious how other people reacted to it? I felt weird and saw weird shapes and shadows moving, and it made me feel awful. What other meds have people tried?

Also my migraine problems are so bad I get dizzy, stomach aches, and constantly see static...Does anyone else get this bad?

One more question I promise lol...I was drugged a few years back with ketamine and pcp (i now have a horrible fear of drugs and hallucinogens and a number of anxiety problems from it). I heard that specifically pcp and ketamine are linked to brain damage in small amounts, but that some people with after affects of high doses (which I was slipped) have problems with migraines later on. So my question is, does anyone know how valid it would be that the explanation for my migraine problems is from the drug incident leading to cell damage? I never had migraine problems before that happened, so that's why I am curious. It's alright though if no one really knows, I am just curious.

Hi,
yes, your headaches could be from the drugs that you were given. Have you had an mri to see if there is any brain damage? Almost everyone has some sort of damage in their brains and even if it's a lot, the body compensates and rewires itself to get back the function it needs most of the time. An mri would really help to show you and the doc what happened.

Is cyproheptadine the only drug you have tried when you get a migraine? I take zomig 5mg when I get a migraine and it works about 90% of the time. Imitrex is another one I see advertised all the time, but I know nothing of it. Also, has your doctor put you on a preventive daily med to prevent the headaches? There are many safe drugs on the market now that doctors can use for this. I used to take inderal for that but none anymore as I don't get them very often anymore, thank god.

When I get severely nauseous, I take 25 mg of promethazine. It definitely works but knocks me out up to 48 hours, so I try to take it sparingly. But when you have that type of stomach ache, we'll try just about anything. There are probably other anit-nauseous stuff that your doc should be able to prescribe.

Is your doctor taking your migraines seriously? If not, you might want to go to a headache or pain clinic. There are more and more popping up and many don't use medications if you are trying to stay away from pills.

I hope this helps. I do hope and pray that you will get the help you need.

God bless...
Carol

If you can't find any physical damage from the drugging incident, have you thought about PTSD, or some lasting anxiety issues stemming from that incident? Anxiety can definitely cause headaches...
