Q: Digestion

I've had my gallbladder taken out a week ago. I was told on wednesday "it has to be done" and operated on thursday. I had no time educate myself on the subject. And now I am searching the web to find information. I've read that without gallbladder your digestion speeds up. Is this true? I do sense more activity in my stomach these days. Though, I also eat food that is more easy to digest.

It takes a while for your body to get used to not having a gallbladder. A high fat meal can cause nausea & diarrhea, as there is not the reserve of bile to deal with it, as there was when you had a gb. Just take it a day at a time & see what your body will take. You digestion wont speed up, but your body will deal with it differently until it settles itself down.

Hi, you said that taking your gb out had to be done. What were the circumstances? You may want to try food enzymes ( which contain bile salts) and much more. You can get these at your local health food store.

The gallbladder concentrates the bile in it. In other words, it makes it more potent so the digestion is better for a fatty meal. The break \down of the meat and fatty substances is crucial for proper digestion. The food enzymes help w/ this since the bile is not concentrated anymore. Hope this helps

i had an acute infection. Temperature, pain and everything. Lots of stones also. I had a similar problem three years ago, but I was abroad, on vacation. And haven't visited a doctor. But it only lasted one day. This time it went on and on.

The suregon that operated on me said "this had to be done. You must have been in horrible pain". I really can't say it was horrible. Just few horrible hours. Everything else was wuite bearable, I worked the whole time. I think I am imune to the pain.

Nobody recommended any enzymes to me. I was only given a "gallbladder diet", but nobody told me how long I have to keep up with this regime. I am two weeks post operation now. And I really don't have any problems. I am mostly eating a creme/yogurt product that I really love. Almost no fat. Some pasta, some potatoes. And I am drinking this mineral water that is know for "opening you up", meaning I have constant diarrhea. And I like it that was. A day after operation I was constipated and scared to death. Three "wounds" in the stomach and unable to go. So I really like it this way.

I asked a question about digestion because I am really scared to get fat.

One of the creme/yogurt products that I eat has small bits of chocolate in it. And I noticed that those bits are still there (seem to be untacked) when I go to the toilette. Weird.

Sorry for the crappy english, I live in europe. And this is the only forum I find helpful.
