Question - Foot Fungus?
Posted: 11-30-05 11:05am

Hi. Ok, here's one of those things that just hasn't seemed worth visiting a doctor over, but finally aggravated me enough to post it.

Every now and then, the skin between my toes begins to peel. It's almost exclusively between the last two toes on my left foot. At its worst, the skin splits open at the deepest spot between the two toes, and it can be painful, although not dramatically so. It's never itchy.

I've tried otc treatments for athlete's foot, and ultimately it goes away, but i've never felt really sure that it went away because of the tinactin or whatever, or whether it just went away on its own. I am active, and do take showers in gym showers and such, but have never been able to really tie this issue directly to a gym or something. At times it has appeared when I wasn't physically active or showering anywhere other than home.

I wash my feet with soap, and dry very carefully between the toes, in the hopes that this will help. In general, i'm, uh, I guess there's not a scientific way to say it, but i'm not very sweaty. :) I tend towards very dry skin.

Any suggestions? Or is this pretty much "wait until it's happening and then go see a doctor" issue?

Thanks!

I had results in two ways:
1: after showering I rinsed my feet very well under a regular tap.
2: these days, whenever I occasional notice it, I clean in between
these toes with a q-tip soaked with 99 % isopropil alcohol. It
hurts a bit, but for me it seems to work.
Give it a try.

You might also try soaking your feet in diluted vinegar water, or putting vinegar on your feet every night for a couple of weeks. Fungus cannot live in acidic environments, so vinegar kills the fungus.

Hope this helps!
