Really Confused With Inconsistent Ct & Ultrasound Result Posted: 11-29-05 20:11pm
:( i've had for some time now pain in my
left groin area, pelvic area, and
abdominal area. I went to the doctor and
he performed an internal exam -- didn't
feel anything. Requested ultrasound
& ct scan. On 10/21 had pelvic
ultrasound which reflected a 2.3 cm cyst
on left ovary but couldn't identify right
ovary. On 10/27, had a ct scan performed
which reflected a large low desnity
septated mass sitting on the left iliacus
muscle in the mild pelvis measuring
5.6x3.67 cm with a hounsfield # =23 and
disputed the ultrasound results stating
that it is a septated not simple cyst.
Still having pain and a repeat pelvic
transvaginal ultrasound was performed on
11/10 which stated that neither ovary was
visible but the ultrasound on the abdomen
stated that a 3.5x1.9 hypoechoic structure
was present which corresponds to the
cystic structure seen in the ct scan and
isn't a simple cyst -- no
through-transmission and may represent a
complex cyst/mesenteric cyst/complex
lymphocele and a second 1.8x2 cm structure
in the left lower quadrant which is
hypechoic and see no correlation for it on
the ct - may be a bowel loop. Repeat
ct scan performed on the abdomen/pelvis on
11/22 which reflects a change in the
pelvis -- septated mass has greatly
resolved although there is still an area
of parenchymal high density with some low
density component remaining. This high
desnity is elongated with a length of
about 4.4 cm and a transverse diameter of
about 1.5 cm. Overall this seems to be a
solid structure with the septated low
desnity mass collapsing but still present
with overall length of about 2.6 cm and
diameter of about .8 cm.
Additionally, there is a new right adnexal
low density mass with a diameter of about
3.32 cm. Its hounsfield # = 24, not
diagnostic of a cyst. This sits in a
tissue mass which is about 4.8 cm.
Greatest diameter. In the abdomen
mesenteric fat planes show an occasional
nonspecific lymph node. There are some
prominent inguinal lymph nodes on each
side as before and the largest sits on the
left with a diameter of about 1 cm.
Since all of this has transpired, i've had
wbcs in my urine and pain in the flank
area & back and was told that I had a
uti. Additionally, my alkaline
phosphatase (alp) test came by extremely
high with the liver fraction causing the
out of range high number. I saw my
doctor today to discuss the latest ct
results and was told that I had a corpus
luteum hematoma that burst but still
remains inside of me and that my body
would rid itself of it and that the mass
that they could be referring to was a part
of my fallopian tubes. He also told me
that he couldn't guarantee that the mass
was absolutely benign nor malignant.
What do I now do????? I'm thinking about
getting a 2nd opinion. Anyone with
thoughts?????????????? Would certainly
appreciate it because I was told to return
in 3 months for a follow-up even though I
expressed to him that I was still having
the pain but not like before. He did
tell me to return sooner if things got
progressively worse. Help!!!

Re: Really Confuesed With Ct And Ultrasound Results Posted: 02-27-06 23:39pm
As I was searching the net for some
answers I came across your message. In
late june of 2005 I learned I was pregnant
and went to the doctor. When I eventually
told my mother I was pregnant and told her
what the doctor had told me she wanted me
to go to a better doctor for a second
opinion. I had a blighted ovum...Which is
when the egg never meets the embryo. So I
had a growing sac of fluid. My new doctor
wanted ultrasound results of his own. On
august 23,'05 I had my first day of
college, and a doctors appointment for an
ultrasound that afternoon. I arrived at
my appointment at 4:00pm and my 5:30 I was
answering millions of questions by tons of
doctors and medical students in the e.R.
I had emergency surgery. My diagnosis at
the time was etopic pregnancy. When my
doctor cut me open instead of a baby
growing in the tube there was very large
tumors on both ovaries. My left ovary had
a tumor that was 10cm and my right was
7cm, and I had to have a dnc. I had my
first surgery that night and they removed
my left fallopian tube and ovary. The
next day on aug.24th I was transferred to
a much larger hospital and had another
doctor. On the 25th I had my second
surgery and the dnc. All I have left is
my right parts. I have been concerned
about having children in the future b/c of
my conditions. My tumors werent malignant
nor benign they are called borderline
ovarian tumors. Since then I alternate
between both doctors every 3months. I
have ultrasounds every 3 months also.
That is common for your doctor to make you
have them every 3mo. To check and see if
they have grown, shrunk, etc. But if you
are in pain, which believe it or not I
wasnt, I would definitly have a second
opinion. About 6 weeks ago I went for my
1st ultrasound since my surgery and I had
a 2.5 cm cyst on my rgt. Ovary. This
past friday feb.24th I had my 3 month
follow up from the last us..The cyst is
now 4.8 cm. Today I learned that I will
need to have surgery over spring break to
remove the cyst and my doctor mentioned
that I check in to feezing some of my
eggs. I strongly suggest that you see
another doctor b/c you never know they
could find something that your present
doctor can not! I wish the best for you.
