Q: Progestrone & Clomid... & Trying

I went to see a specialist after seeing a govt hospital doctor for a year now after my 1st miscarriage last year in october 2004.

He did an ultrasound scan to check my ovaries and uterus condition before he can decide why I am not able to conceive. I also requested for the scan as I was frustrated of visiting my hospital doc who didn't even want to investigate or do any tests except for a uring test everytime I go and see him. When I asked him to do some scans or blood tests or even fertility tests, he said they normally start investigation after trying to conceive for about a year with no success. Since I was able to become pregnant last year, I shouldn't have any problem. Maybe it was because I was stressed up or thinking too much about it.

Now he got me fadup/frustrated, so I decided to visit a specialist since I was late by 1 month and having pains at my right side of the pelvic place.

Now this specialist, Dr. Toh is very knowledgeable and he asked me for my medical history, did a basic check up and after which he did a scan, as he did the scan, he also showed me the images of my uterus (which was good, no problem) and my right & left ovaries (which had afew black holes). He explained that I have unhealthy eggs which are trapped and are not able to be released and so I have delayed periods.

Since I told him that I really wanted a child (no children yet), he advised me to take the medicines as prescript. I started progestrone pills yesterday and am suppose to take it for 5 days, afterwhich 3 days to a week, I should start on my period. (if it doesn't I should go back and see him for a stronger dose to start my period) when my period starts, I should start taking clomid from day2 to day6 and on day 12, I should go back and see him. He will do a scan to check on my ovaries, eggs and will let me know what are the days I should have sex with my husband to have a better chance of conceiving.

Now after my visit yesterday, I felt the doctor has given me hopes and I was in tears. Why didn't the govt hospital doctor do the tests in the first place. Instead treated me like a woman with no problem and wasted my effort, energy and time seating in the outpatient clinic at the hospital for hours before I could see the doc. I felt cheated and abused emotionally. I think there are some docs who are not fit to be a obst/gyn at all. Having a baby is a joke for some, but for most of us, that baby is the joy of our lives.

My concern here is, has anyone gone through this kind of treatment or problems, what are the chances of conceiving and side effects? Please share your experiences and problems.

Thanks!
Lalitha

Hello dear,

clomid is somewhat effective, don't rely on government hospital doctor sometimes they don't treat us fairly, just follow your dr'.S advice, last month I take clomid from day 3 to 5 and day 12 my ultrasound. Did the doctor tell you to take folic acid? It's very important, especially if you have a history of miscarriage. Before I got pregnant this month i'm taking vitamin e & folic acid for 3months. I also have miscarriage last dec. 2004, stillbirth 4months, that why my Dr. Gave me folic to prevent abnormalities of the baby.

So good luck, hoping clomid will work on you. And lastly stress can cause late periods. Try to relax and be calm always. God bless you. .

I couldn't do the ultrascan on day 12, as the stupid doc was on vacation without a notice. The nurse asked me to skip this cycle and try the next cycle. But I carried on trying as usual with my husband. I must say, my temper has been like a roller coaster.

My last mensus was on dec 7, 2005 and I took clomid on day 2 to day 6 according to the doc's advice. Yesterday 3 jan 2006 I tried a home pregnancy urine tester and it was a negative. So I guess I have to wait and see.

Either my mensus comes this week or I will do another test end of the week.

U take care n hope u get ur piece of good news. Keep me informed.
I really hope I have a piece of good news for u too.
May god bless all of us who r trying.

Hey, my period is due around 9 jan, but mine is so irregular I am not betting on it that it will come on that date.
I am sure I am not preggie as I am having pms symptons :( so bloated. Anyway will be on another cycle after my period. This time the doc increase the dosage. How much you are taking?
I really do have some side effects, like blur vision and bad temper. My gynea dismissed it saying that it is really my imagination and psychological..... !

Hey we both r around the same time.

Yes, I have blurred vision and a horrible temper after taking the pills. I am now waiting for the mensus. If it comes, I will see the doc and get the clomid in place. Or else I will pray that I have hit the jackpot.

Keep in touch!

Do you feel tired and need to visit the loo often? Heard that these are some noticable symptons to look out for. Sometimes it is too early to be detected. I know that once my sore breast feelings is gone, my period will be coming. I didn't dare to test yet, but will do so at the end of jan if period still missing. All the best....

Ladies,

it took my wife and I 6 cycles of clomid and 4 years of other specialist involved interaction to get pregnant. After about 30 thousand dollars and years of tears for my wife, it happened.

If she did not get pregnant after the 6th attempt with clomid, we were going to do the "hsg" (i think that is what it is) test to see if there was a problem with the f-tubes. That test is supposed to actually help concieve if there is a small blockage but otherwise no problems. I guess the contrast dye helps flush out the system and brings on the eggies. :)

if you haven't asked your ob/fertility specialist about having that test done, you may want to because it could be something very simple that is stopping the works up.

Also, like I have said before, I do not believe that we were totally ready to become parents and so it did not happen and when we finally gave our entire lives over to god, we got pregnant. (no I am not saying that it was the immaculate conception, just a reaffirmation of our lives to our god.)

as a man looking in from the outside, I will never understand the pain you gals are experiencing each time you go through the cycle and I cannot grasp the emotional crisis that you have. Hopefully your husbands are supporting your emotional rollercoaster and not making you feel bad for feeling bad.

Good luck to all of you and remember, if it could happen for us, it can happen for you too!

Brian
