Q: Arthritis Pain????

I am 34 and a few years ago I was diagnosed with arthritis. Whilst this has not caused me great problems recently (touch wood!) I have been experiencing severe pain in my right arm and numbness in my fingers and wrist. My doctor does not seem convinced that arthritis is the cause and has prescribed codydramol and amitriptyline for the pain and to help me sleep - the pain I experience is far worse whem I am lying down. What I would like to know, if anyone can help, is whether my symptoms are consistent with the arthritis I was diagnosed with previously, or have I inadvertently suffered some form of nerve damage? Apologies for such a woolly question, but the pain is quite distressing at times, and to date, nothing seems to work in relieving it.
