Q: Small Mommy = Small Baby?

I have had quite a few sonograms throughout my pregnancy and every one has shown that the baby is small. I kind of figured this was because I was small before I got pregnant and I was also small at birth, weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces. My mom is also on the petite side. Anyone know if the baby's size has alot to do with genetics?

From what I know a lot of it has to do with genetics. I was 6lbs 11oz when I was born my first was 6lbs 4oz. I too am not a very large person. My head size was very small when I was born and so was my firsts. The docs were concerned with her head size b/c it was small but once they learned I had a small head at birth they were fine with it. You also have to take the fathers info into play. You may be a small person and the father is a bigger person. Your child could take after its father. You just can't be really sure. Right now I am 36 wks and having a boy, b/c I am small my tummy reaaly sticks out there. Most people think I am having twins. My doc says he will be normal just like my other one. You just never can tell anything by looks.

Some of it has to do with genetic some doesnt

my 5 siblings and me were all under 7.4 lbs but above 3lbs 12 oz and my daughter came out at 7lbs 12 oz but hubby was saying him and his family were bigger babies.

I have also heard there are something you eat during pregnancy that can increase the weight such as startches and junk food, really depends on the person. Honestly ask you ob-gyn about it and let us know what he says would be cool to learn something new......

Size Matters:)
I asked my doctor the same question: "will my child be small as I am not very big?" he laughed at me. My siblings and myself were small (about 6lbs. Each) and I was hoping for the same myself. However, daddy of my baby is large and the doctor says, at 30 weeks, he/she is larger than normal. I have only gained 20 lbs. In this pregnancy so it can't be the food. Actually my only cravings are fruits and veggies. So, I am blaming the large size of my child on the father. It seems the easiest thing to do. When in doubt, blame the man!!!

I think it has a little to do with it, but it's all confusing. My best friend is tiny and she had her first baby when she was 14 (she was raped and kept the baby). She probally only weighed 80lbs but the baby was 8lbs 4oz, she almost had to have a c section. I was a small baby only 6lbs, but my first son was 8lbs 9oz and then my daughter was 2 weeks early and weighed 8lbs 5oz. I didn't have any pain killers either, i'm petrified of needles :p

I ain't really sure. I kinda doubt it but who knows! I was like 7 lbs. ? Ounces I can't remember what my mom told me but I was 20 inches long. I am only 5 feet tall and my babies growth is normal from what my Dr. Told me for how far along I am. Which i'm a week off of 8 1/2 months pg. But everyone and every pregnancy is different. I'm sure you have nothing to worry about if that's what you are wondering.

I don't think that if your small your baby will be small. I was a size 1-3, and weighed 115 lbs before I got pregannt. My baby was 9 lbs 10 ozs..

I do know that my husband was 8 lbs 14 oz, and I was 9 lbs 15 ozs when I was born. That could be genetics, but the size you are before pregnant, I don't think has anything to do with it.
