I have been diagnosed (via mri scan) with having (among other tmj complications) 'subchondral cysts in the temporal fossa'.

Can someone please explain what this type of cyst is, how they come to be there, if treatment is necessary, how they might be treated, is there any possibiliity they could develop into tumors or other 'nasties' and any other information about them that could be of interest?
