Q: a Few Questions?

I had a few questions about the labor and delivery. When is the pain the worst, the contractions or the pushing? I have heard both ways, my sis said she didn't feel anything during the pushing. And does ripping or tearing always happen with everyone? My sister had a huge baby boy and I guess it did pretty bad, I wasn't comfortable asking her about that certain issue. Does it hurt really bad or does the epideral numb it? And this might be a dumb or unanswerable question, but i'm clueless...So what would you compare the pain of contractions to? Thanks!

Well. . .
Well, my contractions didn't really hurt until they decided to give me patocin. Then they really picked up. I am horrible when it comes to pain so as soon as I was 4cm I asked for my epidural. Thank the lord for those. To me pushing didn't really hurt. Then again I did have an epidural. But I could feel everything going on down there. I knew when it was time to push (feels like you got to go #2) my daughter came out pretty easy too. I didn't tear or anything. I was up and going to bathroom about 30 minutes after I had her. To me the contractions felt like the worst pms cramps ever except they went up all over my tummy. And if you didn't breath through them it just made them worse. Breathing and trying to relax helped me a lot. I am now 36 wks with my second and I am curious to see what he holds in store for me this time. I hope I helped you a little. Don't ever be shy to ask any kind of questions. It is always best to be informed. Good luck!!!

I went natural but I dont recommend it to everyone, im going to try and go as long as possible with #2 before asking for meds if they can give me anything.

The contractions can be painful but when you have a time frame in between like 3-4 minutes it gives you a breather, as for pushing stage I found my contraction didnt hurt anymore but there was alot of pressure. When you start to push it feels like you need to go for a huge caca and your constipated dont grunt or scream but act as if your going for a caca lol!! As for tearing I did and I didnt feel anything except when they did stitches (i had three) they didnt wait long enough for freezing to effect most hospitals are pretty good though. It will burn when you go pee after the best way to try and avoid it is by squatting and using the water bottle the will give you, whatever you do dont drink anything acidic......... Buy ice packs and motrin/advil to help with swelling and walk alot help healing by haveing blood circulate more.

Wish you luck!!

My wife pushed for 4 hours solid. She was exhausted by the end of it and that is what hurt her the most. She had the epidural about 3 hours into contraction labor but it was not a very effictive placement of the needle and it did not work very well. She did not get good relief until about 5 minutes before the delivery and then the anesthisioligist came in and put 50ml of prestacaine in and numbed her up for the episiotomy. That freaked me out, when the doc grabbed these big sisscors and cut about 3 inchs of stuff and the baby finally came out. I thought for sure my wife would feel him cut her because she was not pain free for the entire labor and then at the end they finally helped her.

4 hours of pushing is far too many for anyone. She is thrilled though that they did not have to go through the pain of delivery and then ceaserean.
