I had surgery to remove a ganglion cist on my left wrist 7 days ago. My ortho md removed the cist and I am recovering now. Will have a 2 inch scar, but its going to be worth it if it relieves the pain. Aside from the incision, I do not have the constant ache in my left wrist and arm. I had carpal tunnel surgery 10 years ago on the same wrist. The ganglion cist was a much different pain to experience. Before surgery, I had 2 shots of cortizone which did not do any good. Anyone else have similar surgery and a successful outcome later down the road. I dread going through this experience again.

Ganglion cysts are the worst. I honestly don't think my doctor understands. This december will mark my 2nd cyst surgery.

Cyst
Yes, I also had surgery on my wrist around 10 years ago. Surgery went fine. Just a few months ago I noticed it coming back. When I bend my wrist you can see it starting to come up again. I am upset to think I may need another surgery on my hand.

I had surgery on my left wrist to remove a ganglion cyst a little over 2 years ago. My doctor told me that if you have the surgery there is only like a 3 percent chance that the cyst will develop again where as if you have the fluid drawn out of the cyst by means of a needle there is at least a 50 percent chance that it will come back. Being terrified of needles, I decided on the surgery. After removing the cyst, my surgeon even scraped the bone on mine and well unfortunately the cyst is back. It is still only small relative to the size when I had it removed before, but it is still disappointing thinking that I will have to have surgery again!

Extremely eHealthy
My daughter was born with one of those. She is now 22 and still has yet to be treated for it. It is still really small, but its like artritis for her, just hurts sometimes. But if she uses her strength in her wrist it always hurts.

So usually they are big or extremely painful before they do something with them???

Yeah I had my surgery on my wrist 2 months ago and im recovering from it still now. I need it to play the guitar, im a music major at uri and this wrist is my future...It all depends on this pain-in-the-ass scar tissue healing. I dont know when this is going to heal, and if it ever fully does,,, (does it??) it better not come back. But I think it depends on how a person uses the wrist, the key is to relax is as much as possible, never keep it tight when using it for longer than necessary, take breaks and just be careful.

Well, I think it is true to use your wrist as little as possible and take breaks. I started working at wal-mart as a cashier the day after my surgery and it was a big pain in the butt. Therefore it took longer for my surgery to heal and I think it is partially why the cyst came back. As for scar tissue, I really don't seem to have hardly any. If there is any, it is a very minute amount. Of course it will continue to build year after year, or that 's what i've been told anyway. But in retrospect, I think every person is different and every surgery is different, and how much/how hard you use your wrist after surgeryis different. So it just depends on everything whether or not the cyst will come back , how much scar tissue will build up..Etc etc. From my experience I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to play the guitar the same as you always have. I hope everything goes good for you blacknwhite777.

I'm five weeks out from ganglion cyst surgery and also have a big lump of scar tissue. That was unsettling enough for me to go right back to the doc, but he said it's normal -- may take up to a year to reduce.

I had a ganglion cyst that was only mildly sore, but was affecting the nerves of my left hand (slowing down my typing considerably), so they decided to remove.

A plastic surgeon actually did my surgery in October of 2003. The scar is right in the crease of where the wrist bends, so it's not very noticable and the cyst has not returned, thus far.

I had no loss of feeling, at all, and my recovery time was minimal (I did have to use an arm sling because my wrist ached if I tried to hold it up on my own; it really helped).

Good luck to those of you having the surgery!

Ganglion and Yoga
I had a ganglion cyst removed in Sept 2007, it has been 6 months and my wrist feels fine except when I do yoga or pushups. I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on whether this unpleasantness will go away with time or if yoga may not be in my future because of the scar tissue.

i had a ganglion cyst removed from my left wrist about 3 months ago. it was just a little sore for a month but then i noticed it was starting to form again. it hurts when i write, type, basically whenever i move it. im left handed which makes it worse. is it worth getting surgery again or will it just come back in another two months?
