I've been plagued with urinary tract/bladder/kidney infections since I was in my mid twenties, and I am in my forties now. Thankfully, they have become less frequent in the last 5 or 6 years. You need to see a doctor and let him prescribe you an antibiotic. Until then, you can buy an over-the-counter medicine, azo for urinary infections, that will provide you quick relief until you can see a doctor. It will turn your urine orange, so don't be alarmed. I've used it many times, and it's the best until you can get to a doctor. Keep in mind that the azo will only help relieve your discomfort, it will not cure your infection.

Correct 100%. Azo is great, and pharmacists I work with recommend it, however it will only mask symptoms. Not cure the infection. It is imperative you get to a doc and get antibiotics. Bladder infections left untreated can become kidney infections. You can die from any untreated bacterial infection.

Yeah, you will have to go to the doctor to get an antibiotic. If you let it go it can cause a kidney infection and that is nothing to mess with. It wouldn't hurt to try the medicine for the pain either. However, it never helped me. Even the prescribed kind didn't help me. But it does work for a lot of people. Also, if you get frequent uti's a lot of doctors will just let you call in when you are starting to show symptoms and they will give you another prescription without a visit.

Preventing Urinary Tract Infections...
Cranberry juice can help prevent uti.
Cranberry juice prevents uti's not because of the acidic nature of the cranberry juice, nor because of the vitamin c content, but rather due to compounds called proanthocyanidins which prevent the attachment of e.Coli to the walls of the urinary tract. E. Coli is a major culprit in uti's. Blueberry juice works as well. This does not imply that a regimen of cranberry juice should replace antibiotics as the therapy of choice when treatment is needed, but it could be a useful adjunct to treatment. Cranberry juice works best with asymptomatic, mild uti, but it would be better to take antibiotics once symptoms occur.

You can buy Azo (sp?) over the counter, but you need to go see the doctor to cure the infection. If it spreads to your kidneys it can be life threatening not to mention very very painful!

Blood in urin
I went to the bathroom this morning and my urin looked like all blood. I am a 64 year old man and have never had a problem befor or noticed any blood in my urin. At my last physical the doctor told me I had a slightly enlarged prostate. He said if I was not having problems not to wory about it. My physical was 6 months ago. What may be the cause?
