Hi everyone..
I need suggestions..How do you deal with a panic attack. I usually calm myself down by staying home and doing something that I like that can take my attention of the anxiety. Tomorrow i'm leaving the u.S.And heading to another country. I have a 16 hour flight and im already gettin anxious just thinking about it. I don't like planes! And I don't want anxiety to ruin my trip..I'll be gone for 2 weeks..How do I deal with anxiety away from home? I have to do to visit family, and i've never been away from home this long and I don't like being away from home...=(

Hi,
i also suffer from panic attacks..The last one ended up in a weeks stay at the coronary hospital.

Try to think beyond the journey. The plane is a means to get else where. You are safer in the air than on the ground.

Going to another country can be really exciting, different cultures and scenery I am sure will do you really good.

Have a nice relaxed bath, put on some relaxing music. If you have any lavender ...That is great.

If you feel an attack coming on breath in and out of a paper bag to get the oxygen levels coorect.

Try to distract yourself, ring a freind or go window shopping for an hour.

Any worries write them down. That way it is on paper and maybe can get out of your head.

Any last minute panics can also be wrote down so you don't forget.

Pop on a comedy, laughter is a fantasic way of relaxation.

Thanks for all the advice. I've tried breathing excercises and I write things down alot. I understand that anxiety is a sate of mind, and I try soo hard to think positively and not to worry about things..But its so weird..It's so hard to stop. I'll try those relaxation tips..The comedy thing seems like a good idea too. And..I wish I could phone a friend, but I won't have a phone on my trip. But thanks a bunch for all the suggestions!!
